"Sebastian, your car is here." Rufus, the doorman, announces through my office phone intercom. I push off the desk and walk around it to respond. "We'll be right down."

"Yes, sir," and we hear him chuckle right before the connection is broken. He's thoroughly enjoying the inside information that the 'Sam' Chad told him to expect rushing through his guard wasn't a man but was a pretty, young blonde in red.

I look at Samaera and answer her. "Because I want you to."

Samaera

"Because I want you to?What kind of non-answer is that?" I ask as he waves me to lead the way out of his office.

"It is a legitimate answer," he chuckles, following me into my new office space, "I like what you've done here."

I decide to unruffle my feathers for the time being. There is no sense fighting over where I'll live at the moment. It's my first damn day. If he says, I need security, I must need security. I'll work on the problem when I have saved enough money to find myself a decent place to live. How hard can it be to handle this one man? I've lived with four brothers.

On the ride down the elevator, we remain quiet, not verbalizing our thoughts. But his are evident in the boner I see reflected in the elevator doors. The electricity between us could charge the battery in The Wizard. I take a deep breath to calm my racing heart and realize the tips of my tits are rock hard and pushing against the thin fabric of my red dress.

Fuck! Now, he's fully aware he turns me on. Note to self: Put Band-Aids over your nipples from now on.

A mantra of 'Do a good job. Don’t do him—again' goes on a loop inside my head. It's going to be a real challenge to keep this on a professional level and not catch all the feels for him.

As soon as the doors open, we step out together, and for the first time, I look around. The lobby is empty except for floor signs scattered around displaying authors and books. There's a flat table with a blue tablecloth covering it. Several pens are placed in front of where the chair is aligned. A table sign that reads, "Author signing coming soon." Nothing fancy.

But when I look up, that's an entirely different thing. Every level, ten total, has a glass wall that allows an unobstructed view into the lobby, and people are lined up, looking down on us. I instantly feel like a fish in an aquarium.

Bastian says, "Apparently, news that I've hired a woman has spread faster than the flames of a fire would, and everyone wants to see for themselves."

"Or perhaps news spread that you hired someone who stood up to Janet." I look at him as our strides sync and smile. "I'm 100% certain she shared with her crew dropping the dildo on my desk."

"How does that translate to standing up to her?" He looks confused at me.

"Before, when she came up to the penthouse, did she, or did she not, barge in on you unannounced?"

"She did."

"Ah," he grins, "She bragged she embarrassed you, but she also exposed you blocked her access."

"Yep," I nod.

"I'm impressed." He flashes that cute smile with the dimple.

"You should be." I cut my eyes at him as I slow to navigate the open door Rufus is holding for us. "She's the worse kind of bully, Bastian."

I stop and introduce myself to Rufus. "Sam Mathieson," I hold out my hand.

He takes it and says, "Rufus Grey. It's nice to meet you. Congratulations on your new job."

"Thank you. I wouldn't have made it on time if you hadn't pointed the way."

"You're most welcome, Sam." He greets his boss. "Sebastian."

We step out onto the sidewalk. The sounds of traffic always surprise me. It's loud and never-ending. Horns, catcalls, construction. I search for the car Reno took me home in, but it isn't parked on the street.

Bastian joins me, putting his hand on my back and guiding me to a black two-seater, low-ride sports car. I don't recognize the body style, but then again, I wouldn't. It screamsEXPENSIVE.

There is a man standing next to it, and Bastian walks me up to him. "Oscar, Dixie Doodle, aka Sam Mathieson. My new P. A."

Oscar's a poker player and a damn good one because Bastian could have introduced me as the Virgin Mary, and I don't think he would have flinched. He nods, then simply hands the keys to Bastian. Who pats him on the shoulder and tells him to take the rest of the day off. Then he walks around the front, and Oscar opens the door for me.
