“So, what’s your deal?”

“Me?” I question, blowing out smoke.

“Yeah. You’re…straight?”

He says it like he doesn’t believe it to be true.

“Yes,” I reply with a bite.

“Okay,” he replies, holding up his hands like I’m being hostile.

“I tried telling him we’re all a little bi, but he doesn’t believe me,” Vic says with a laugh.

“And you?” He aims the question at Vic.

“I’m an equal opportunist, really.”

He nods with a smile on his face and takes the joint from her. “Okay. And y’all are just friends with benefits?”

She reaches for the joint I have between my fingers. “Yeah. We’re really close. Like siblings.”

“Ew. Don’t say that.”

Vic laughs. “Okay, like cousins.”

I sputter out a laugh. “That’s not any better.”

“Whatever, we’re close. The best of friends. But have you ever been so close to someone you know you’d never be able to be in a relationship with them?”

Oliver nods. “Yeah, but I also don’t sleep with them.”

“People don’t understand it, but we hookup when the mood strikes and if we’re not actively dating anyone. It’s not like we keep doing it all the time. Better than going without, or sleeping with someone you’ll regret just because you’re a horn dog.”

Oliver laughs. “I guess I can understand that.”

“Do you guys have threesomes a lot?” he asks, passing me the joint, his eyes steady on mine.

“No,” I say, aiming a look at Vic. “In fact, you were our first one, but Vic lied to me.”

I find myself sitting up and leaning over the table, feeling a little looser and more comfortable. He does the same.

“Lied about what?” he asks, his eyes sliding to hers.

“I didn’t lie!” she exclaims.

“We had talked about it, and I kept asking about different girls. She ends up telling me she found someone, so I show up asking about her. I specifically kept sayingherandshe.Like, what does she look like? Does she know what I look like? Blah blah. And not once did she correct me!”

Victoria busts out laughing while me and Oliver are all smiles.

“It’s not my fault youassumed.”

I shake my head. “So, I was a little caught off guard when you walked in.”

Oliver laughs. “I’d say so. Is that why you were a little…tense.”

“I’ve never had a threesome before!” I screech, my hands in the air as my gaze bounces between them. “So, not only was I freaking out about that, I was expecting something completely different. I think I did a fairly decent job accepting the turn of events.”

“I can’t believe you didn’t tell him,” Oliver tells Vic.
