“Hmm,” is all I say, looking at my phone for no reason.

“You seem nervous around me.”

“I’m not nervous,” I say, making an effort to stare him straight in the eye. “I just don’t know you.”

“Well, you know a lot more than most people.”

Once again, my body temperature rises, my cheeks retaining most of the heat.

“I don’t know you, and you don’t know me.”

He checks me out again. “I’d like to.”

My stomach does a flip. I’m never on the receiving end of flirtation, at least not flirtation like this. With another drink or so, it could be easy to succumb to.

Before I can respond, Vic rounds the corner. “Oliver!” she yells in a high-pitched tone.

He smiles at her and gives her a quick side-hug. “Hey, having fun?”

She shrugs. “It’s just okay if I’m being honest.”

“Yeah.” His eyes slowly look over to find me. “I could definitely find something better to do.”

I clear my throat. “I think I’m gonna go to the other room. My roommates should be here.”

“We’ll come, too!” Vic chirps, hooking her arm through Oliver’s.

“Aiden,” my ex-girlfriend squeaks when I walk past her.

“Chelsea,” I say in the same voice.

“Are you leaving? Want to do a body shot? I’m wearing that bra you liked. I can put the shot glass in my cleavage.”

Even though we didn’t end on bad terms, I don’t want to lead her on. “Not right now, Chels. I’m going to the other room.”

She forces a pout before I walk away.

“Aiden’s popular with the ladies,” Vic tells Oliver.

“If you’re trying to whisper, you’re doing a bad job,” I say.

“Well, I know a couple guys who’d like their chance at him, too.”

Vic lets out a loud whoop. “I need all the details. Who?”

I speed up and ditch them, finding Dameion and Mason playing beer pong with Zack and Angelo.

“What’s up, guys? You losing?”

Dame laughs. “I’m pretty bad, but Mase is keeping us alive.”

“How’s the other room?” Mason asks.

“It’s okay. There seems to be more people here.”

“Yeah, they’ve got a game of truth, dare, or drink going on in the living room,” Dame says before tossing a ball straight off the end of the table. “Damn. I suck.”

Victoria rushes behind Mason and hugs him from behind. “Hey, losers. Where’s y’all’s other halves?”
