Victoria stands up and moves me so I’m focused on the kitchen. “See that one over there by the stove? Her name’s Dani. Isn’t she so cute? She’s like a little pixie fairy.”

“Yeah.”

“She’s single.”

“You guys are so weird,” Marcie says from her position on the couch. “I don’t understand how y’all have sex and talk about other people you’re attracted to.”

Me and Vic look at each other and shrug. “It works for us,” she says.

“Yeah, we know we’re not gonna get married, but when we’re horny, we have each other.”

“And when we want to explore other people to see if they’re for us, we’re okay with that.”

Marcie shakes her head and takes a sip of her drink. “I guess.”

I take my beer into the kitchen and talk to Dani and her friend, Ty, and the three of us end up taking a shot of tequila as well as a Jell-O shot that tastes god awful. I finish my beer and get all of us another one before Vic joins us and we play beer pong on the table set up in the kitchen.

A little over an hour later, we’re all pretty tipsy and having a good time. Me and Dani sneak away, standing near the double sinks that are outside the bathroom. There’s fewer people here since it’s near the bedrooms, but anyone needing to pee waits in a line nearby.

“So, what are you doing tomorrow?” she asks.

“Probably the homework that’s due Monday,” I say with a grin.

She laughs. “Well, when you’re done, maybe you can text me.”

The bathroom door opens and someone walks past us to get to one of the sinks we’re next to.

I smile at Dani. “I see what you did there.” She grins. “I guess I’m gonna need your number so I can text you.”

“I guess so,” she says, putting her hand out for my phone.

When I reach into my pocket to grab it, I look around and notice the person at the sink washing his hands is Oliver.

He meets my gaze through the reflection, inclining his head. “What’s going on?” he asks.

“Not much,” I reply, taking my phone from Dani.

“I have to go meet my friends. You’ll text me?”

I look down at her and smile. “Yeah.”

“Cool.”

After she scurries off, I’m left with Oliver. He’s wearing some black drawstring pants, a black T-shirt with an unbuttoned, black and white plaid flannel over it.

It’s a nice look. I gaze down at my jeans and gray hoodie, realizing I didn’t put a lot of thought into my outfit tonight.

“How you doin’?” he asks, leaning his shoulder against the wall.

“As good as usual, I suppose,” I say. “You?”

He looks amused when he smiles, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “I’m good. Is Victoria here?”

“Yeah, she’s around,” I say, trying to look anywhere but his eyes. Something about them draw me in and make me feel like I’m in quicksand, unable to move. “Why? Don’t want to talk to herlittlefriend?”

He smirks, his eyes drinking me in. “You proved me wrong about that, didn’t you?”

My body instantly heats up but my eyes bounce around, wondering if anyone heard.
