There were no sounds behind me, nor any sign that I was yet being followed. Everyone listened to Tobias, and he had given me to Jonathan for the night and told no one to disturb us in the lounge. That meant I had until morning to get as far away from the house as possible, and I had nothing to lose.

Holding the club in one hand and my knife in the other, I’d whispered my admittance to Soren. “I don’t know how to play.”

And he’d taught me.

His guard had wrapped my hand, I’d tucked my knife safely in my bra, and we’d played until we got to the final hole. Then Soren had informed me he knew the perfect place for me to go—speaking as if he knew the situation I was coming from, though I’d never told him of my life or who I was.

A long nap and quick tidy up later, and his car had dropped me off here.

With Leighton.

I had a lot to thank Soren for, but there was no point in thanking him until I’d gotten my dark bond.

Ambrose’s scent tickled my nose again and I growled. Shovelling down a couple mouthfuls of food, I grabbed the pillows, starting all over in my quest to make Leighton forget anyone other than me existed.

SIX

AMBROSE

Leighton called, and I answered.

That was how this one-sided infatuation worked. She was convinced we could never have anything more than our back-room trysts at The Pointe Lounge, but I was continuously hoping to convince her otherwise.

All the barriers were superficial, really.

Her brother would understand. He was the sweetest omega on the planet and would want his sister to stop pretending she enjoyed being alone in this empty apartment. Her mother could be dealt with. A few weeks of media attention was nothing in the grand scheme of things.

My pack was a different matter, but Dash was on a downward spiral anyway. He was circling the drain despite everything Mercury and I had done to help. Maybe a shakeup was what he needed.

But now there was this.

How did the fidgety omega fit into my romance with Leighton?

She’d scent marked every inch of the condo overnight, and I got the sense she was trying to deter me. I wouldn’t be deterred, especially not when her scent was annoyingly… pleasant.

Besides, when Leighton had wandered into the coconut scented hallway, she’d immediately turned back around and pounced on me. I’d made her come riding my cock. While Leighton had denied her horniness had anything to do with the omega, it was obvious.

Kiara hadn’t been pleased to see me after I’d reaped the benefits, and Leighton had fled straight from her bedroom to go to work. It left me alone with Kiara, and I relished the chance to assess her.

“So, little omega,” I said. I lounged on the armchair, placing both hands behind my head leisurely. “Tell me why you want a dark bond.”

She peered at me out of the corner of her eye.

The young woman was nervous around me in a way she wasn’t around Leighton. I couldn’t tell if it was because I was a male alpha, because I was big, or because of my scarring. I’d kept my aura pulled in so I didn’t scare her, but she was intimidated nonetheless.

Yet, also fiery.

Each glare would be followed by her shrinking in on herself. I never reacted, and she was growing bolder with time. I saw a little bit of what Leighton did.

Kiara was plotting something, for sure. It was there in the way she furtively glanced around the room and fidgeted. I’d noticed her pressing her hand flat against the side of her left thigh like she was holding something precious. I bet she was hiding some kind of memento there.

However, I had yet to be convinced she was dangerous.

Though I was happy to assuage Leighton’s concerns by guarding the bedroom door and watching her sleep last night.

“I’m not going to tell you that,” she said.

I lifted an eyebrow. “Why not?”
