“It’s none of your business. The dark bond is between me and Leighton.”

Her scent spiked and I couldn’t deny it threatened to make my cock hard. She was wearing Leighton’s favourite loungewear, and their mixed scents were heady.

“I think you know that it’s my business,” I said.

Kiara’s plump lips pursed and she tried not to show her displeasure. It was too late. First thing this morning, she’d pinned me with a feral glare fitting of a possessive omega. She’d claimed Leighton as hers, and she wasn’t pleased with me touching.

How unfortunate for her that I had Leighton first, and my alpha lover wasn’t anywhere close to letting Kiara touch her.

“She’s not in a pack with you. Therefore, not your business.”

“Oh, but she’s in bed with me. Tell me why you want that dark bond, little omega. Maybe I can help you get one. Just not from her.”

Growling low in her throat, Kiara’s fingers dug into her cushy thighs. Her gorgeous blue eyes were narrowed with irritation.

I’d been around plenty of omegas, considering my job at The Pointe, and I knew which mannerisms were pure instinct. Kiara wasn’t reacting with rational thought right now.

“I willnotbe telling you anything.”

“Do you think you’re going to be able to convince Leighton to do it?” I asked. “I’ve been pushing for her to admit she loves me for years now, and nothing’s come of it. She’s bull-headed. Do you have years to wait?”

She huffed and turned away.

It did cross my mind that, maybe, Leighton was better off with Kiara. Things with my pack were complicated in more ways than one, and I worried I’d blow it up for all of us by continuing this clandestine relationship.

But I couldn’t let her go.

I wouldn’t let anyone go, not after I’d had my family ripped away from me by force.

In my opinion, I had the right to be a bit selfish after that.

We sat in silence for a while. It was something I was comfortable in, but she clearly was not. Kiara became increasingly agitated, her aura pulsing around her. I doubted more than ten minutes had passed when she pushed to her feet and stormed for the kitchen.

I could see her from my seat, but the glass double doors separated us. Pulling out my phone, I took the opportunity to call back Mercury. My packmate, and… more.

“Where are you?” Mercury asked, his tone both cold and breathless. “You’re not at the club and not at the house.”

“I’m aware I’m at neither of those places,” I confirmed. “I’m out.”

Mercury’s heavy breathing came through the line for a second as he processed that.

I didn’t go out.

I knew how suspicious this was, but I couldn’t betray Leighton’s trust when she’d finally called me for something that wasn’t a hookup. He would understand when he found out. Probably. My packmate knew there was a woman, he just didn’t know who she was.

“You’re at her place, aren’t you?”

“I am.”

“Jesus, Ambrose. You’re going out, staying at this woman’s house, and not telling us? We haven’t even met her. I didn’t think it was that serious.”

Kiara was cutting an apple, the knife coming down violently onto the cutting board. I watched the sharp implement, partly to ensure she didn’t chop off one of her fingers and partly so I could catch her if she tried to steal it. An angry, unstable omega with a knife didn’t sound like a good time.

Especially not when the glint of a blade could send my mind in dark directions.

“There was a bit of an emergency,” I said.

“You didn’t even text me.”
