How did it go?
I am obviously not meant to climb. He hesitated, before refocusing.Seriously, it is time Cara revealed some of her suspicions, at least, about you.
He was right. As we walked up the meadow path, I asked her, “Do you really think I’m Lyric’s daughter?”
Her gaze reflected her sympathy. “Yes, I do.”
“So, who is my father?”
“I need to test my theory before I can say for sure.”
I regarded her with frustration. “But I’m part Liberi, and part Satyr?”
She nodded. “If it’s any consolation, neither the Dragon nor the Dire virus can infect you.”
Dammit.I sensed Matt entering the building from the back field. So my sinking my teeth into you did nothing.
It turned me on. Does that count?
He answered with a heat that stole my breath. Which was just as well, because Cara’s next comment would have taken it from me anyway.
“Your powers are just starting to develop. As I mentioned, Satyrs and Liberis are very long-lived races. By their terms, you are still an adolescent.”
That assessment disturbed Matt.Um... I’m not robbing the cradle, am I? Because that would be stonkin’ wrong. He hesitated. And it doesn’t feel wrong.
Just means I’m not yet at peak,I promised, sending a pulse along the link.
Strewth, I just about face-planted on the stairs, Angel. You comin’ for lunch?
My stomach growled. The Satyr’s pastry seemed a long time ago.Yes, I’ll be there. Then I focused on the important bit. “So I’m going to get stronger?”
“I suspect so,” Cara said as we pushed through the front doors.
I fell silent as she led the way to her quarters. My first true stab at normality was to change out of the delicate blue gown and back into my leggings and tee shirt.
Liked that dress,Matt said. Can’t wait until I can show you just how much.
“I know this is hard,” Cara told me as she escorted me to the door.
That’s not the only hard thing.
Oblivious to Matt’s preoccupation, the Watcher continued. “I’ll get those answers for you as soon as I can.”
“Thanks, Cara.” I headed down the hall. Between Satyr queens and Bellati warriors, my world had been spun on its axis. When I entered the cafeteria, I was adrift in it all.
Got your faves, Angel.I looked over to our table and saw that Matt and Mari had collected three trays of food.
What would I do without my two anchors? Trix greeted them with enthusiasm, making “rrroow-rroow-rrroow” sounds like she was telling them about our morning.
She probably was.
As soon as I sat down, Mari leaned close to whisper, “Did Cara really take you to be trained by Bellatis?”
Someone—no doubt with an accent and sometimes furry—had been telling tales. But Mari knew how to keep a secret.
“Yes,” I replied.
Matt hunkered closer from across the table. “She has friends in high places.”
