Did we wake you?Ash asked her. His mindvoice dripped deliberate, blissful, deceitful ignorance.
You know damned well you did. Who can sleep with all that going on?She had to work hard to keep the annoyance in her mindvoice.
See anything you like?Tyrez, a deep rumble through her mind.
Dani took a deep breath.I am not even going to dignify that with an answer.
I think that is an answer.Tyrez’s satisfaction rippled through the link.
Damned Dragon. His mindvoice, as sexy as his real one, sent her insides to fluttering erratically. Wait a minute—Dragonfly?
Seems to suit,Ash commented.
The Dragon bit, maybe. But flying? Only briefly, before crashing.
Crashing. She remembered Rindek’s energy scorching through her. She should have died.
You’re tough. You weren’t dead. Only crumpled.
Dani sighed. She had two Dragons in her head. For someone determined to live life on her own terms, not a great development.
You seemed to enjoy it a moment ago.Tyrez sounded far too smug.
Don’t get cocky,she warned.
We have to introduce Ash to Star Wars if we are going to continue these quotes, the big Dragon commented.
Quotes? Oh, right. The Yoda “future in motion” thing.
We will teach you to fly for real,Ash encouraged. You’ll love it.
My flying skills require work, she grumbled.
Nothing that cannot be remedied,Tyrez affirmed. You have already perfected the fine art of splatting.
The mental dialogue rolled so easily—like she’d been doing it all her life. With each word, she came closer to relenting, to opening the cage around her heart. Was that a mistake? They were powerful, her Dragons. And trust was not something she was much good at.
Her stomach chose this time to rumble. Dragon body or not, Dani decided it was time to get up.
Excellent. Because we are going flying.
What! I am NOT going flying. I wish to eat, dammit.
First we fly. Then we eat.Tyrez sounded quite determined. As well as close, apparently. The bedroom door opened, and he entered wearing scales that made his lower half decent—barely—and nothing on his upper half.
With an effort—her fingers curled with the desire to touch—she focused on his face. The living reality appeared as firm on the flying comment as his mindvoice.
She summoned a glare at Tyrez, just as Ash followed him in.
Ash assessed her for a moment, his brows climbing. “We could stretch our wings,” he said aloud. “Might do us good.”
Dani glared at them. They stared back at her, expressions a perfectly matched combination of calm and focused determination.
Dragons could be manipulative bastards. She wasn’t likely to get fed until she agreed with them.
“Oh, all right then. If it will get you out of my hair—and my head—then we’ll go flying.”
“Or splatting,” Ash said.
