I frown.
At least I think I frown.
I feel like I'm frowning.
"You are." Ellida chuckles. "You frown just as fiercely as your father and are no less beautiful when you do it."
Man, I really don't get this.
"Then let us explain."
Ok then. Guess I don't need to use my words at all for this shit.
Another chuckle from both of them and then Tolan, my father, continues.
"The Prophecy of the Dark One is real, my child. It is real but it is not truth. Your mate has the darkness inside him because he is the first of his kind, but he also has so much light inside as well, light that comes from you." Those sapphire eyes flicker and pin me with their intensity. "Havok will fulfill his destiny, will finally put an end to the suffering the two of you have endured, avenge not only you but our people as well, but when he does that, darkness will try to break free. Your mate’s darkness is drawn to the darkness in Nero and when he kills him that darkness will need a place to go, a place to be contained so that it does not destroy the world around you."
Fuck.
Ellida scowls at me but says nothing, just waits for Tolan to continue.
"As long as he has you, Havok will be able to channel that darkness and lock it away, keep it inside and dormant, though it will be a battle. You will have to help him, help him see through the dark and find his way or else all will be lost. He will be lost."
How the hell am I supposed to do that?
I had no idea what I was until like, a minute ago, so how in the hell am I supposed to channel whatever power I have and use it to help Havok?
"You will know when the time is right." Ellida grins. "You were born of great love, great power, and both have been passed to you. It is time you awaken and fight for one with the other."
Oh god, they're going to leave.
They just got here.
They can't leave, not when I have so many questions, so many things I need to know.
Not when I've finally found where I come from, where I truly belong.
Tolan shakes his head. "You truly belong with your mate, with his dragon brothers. That is where you were always destined to plant your roots, Cora. Our opportunity to be your family was fleeting, a brief glimpse of pure happiness, and though the ones we chose for you were never your true family, it is because of them that you found it anyway."
"We never wanted your journey to be one so difficult, Cora," Ellida whispers, a tear falling down her cheek. "We wanted you so desperately, wanted to raise you ourselves and teach you, nurture you, help you become the beautiful spirit you became anyway. It was selfish of us to create you at a time when we knew you were still at risk but our desire for a child, our love for you, was already so big it had nowhere else to go."
So they did what they thought was right.
They hid me in plain sight the way I've done through multiple lifetimes just so I had a chance at happiness.
Tolan nods. "Exactly. So never question if you were created from love, if you were loved unconditionally, if you were wanted desperately. You were, you are, and you always will be. Never question that."
"And never question yourself, my child." Ellida smiles through her tears. "You possess every gift we have and they will come to you now that you have fully accepted who you are. Use those gifts to help your mate, to help your family. They were forged from our bond and are enforced by the love of those around you; therefore, they will never fail you."
But what about my questions? I have no idea what I'm capable of, how to harness this so-called power within me. I need them to stay, to teach me, to show me and love me the way parents are supposed to.
Another tear rolls down Ellida's cheek as she shakes her head. "We cannot, my child. We cannot stay, aren't really even here at all. Unfortunately, we met our Maker shortly after your first birthday and the only reason you are able to see us, to speak with us now is because you have accepted who you are and are already channeling that power within you."
"We never left you, Cora, not truly. Our bodies returned to the earth, our souls freed to live in The After, but our spirits have been with you every step of the way in every life you have lived." A single tear rolls down Tolan's cheek. "And our spirits will never leave your side; will always be in your heart."
No.
No, please, I have so many questions.
