She gives me a tender look, presses a kiss to my chin then starts rummaging through the kitchen.

While Posey cooks us a dinner of steak, potatoes, asparagus, and sweet rolls, I unpack our bags and do a little exploring of my own.

I sweep the perimeter of the property, my enhanced senses picking up that the only company we have for miles is a few deer, rabbits, other small game, and a couple of coyotes still too close for my liking. Once I'm satisfied that my mate is safe and protected, I venture down to my den and sigh in relief.

Stone walls and floors.

Light tight.

Sound proof.

Warm.

Peaceful.

A massive nest of pillows and fleece blankets in the center.

My dragon perks up at his new lair, snorts his approval before begging me to shift so he can explore and test out his nest.

Soon, my friend. We must be patient.

He huffs,Mine.

It is. It is yours but we must speak with our mate first. We don't want to frighten her, send her away.

She is ours. She will stay.

I roll my eyes. Such a primitive creature, my dragon. Everything is black and white.

She will make the choice once I tell her everything. We cannot force her to accept either of us.

She will stay.

Finding no point in discussing this further, I head back upstairs just in time to find Posey setting our plates at the table.

"I made you two." She nods toward my plate. "But I can make a third if you're still hungry. Since you like them rare it only takes a minute or so to whip it up."

I wash my hands then grab some wine, knowing damn well Posey is going to need something strong as fuck in preparation for our chat, then press a kiss to her temple before she sits.

"Thank you for cooking." I sit across from her, pour the red then my eyes go wide as I look down at my plate.

Posey giggles. "I also loaded you up on potatoes and greens to try to make sure your meal is semi balanced."

"No shit."

"Kai!" She laughs harder. "I do believe I've finally started to rub off on you!"

I shake my head with a smile. "My mother would have been mortified to hear that come from my mouth at the dinner table."

"I wish I could have met her." Posey sighs. "I would've definitely enjoyed meeting the brave woman who raised four of the biggest pains in the ass I have ever met."

My dragon snorts his laughter while I playfully scowl. "I was an angel, a pure delight and the light of my mother's life. She only raised three of the biggest pains in the ass and I gave her utter perfection."

Posey laughs, the sound like chimes blowing in a summer breeze. "So modest, Kasimir."

Gods how I love hearing her say my given name.

A little too much, judging by the way my groin tightens and swells.
