He handed her a water bottle and a granola bar out of his pack before folding the blankets and stowing them away. She ate while he tossed snow onto the red embers until nothing remained except wisps of smoke.
She should have been embarrassed that she’d come on to him. She’d been surprised that he wasn’t the first one to make the move.
They hiked across the rugged terrain with more ease than the day before. He’d touched her more than once on the way. They were like magnets. Where one went, the other followed. It was almost like he knew or expected what she’d need before she even asked, helping her and stopping when she’d needed it. He was tuned in to her in a way no other man had ever been before. In her world, one night in a cave didn’t produce that type of reaction, especially from a self-confessed one-and-done man.
When they reached the cabin, she expected him to take her against the door, and instead, he waited. Was he regretting what they’d started?
The excitement in her body simmered into confusion when he started a fire and then began to fix something to eat.
“Did you change your mind?” She blurted the words before she could stop herself.
“No,” he said reassuringly. “You need warmth and sustenance. I don’t plan on letting you out of bed for several hours.”
That excitement of his promise slammed into her core, making her legs tremble. They ate like they hadn’t seen food in a week. The dishes never even made it to the sink before he was taking her hand and practically raced her to the bathroom.
“We both need a shower.”
“And you thought taking one together would save water?”
He chuckled. “Not hardly.”
He eased the shirt over her head, and his gaze dropped to her breasts as he removed her bra. He lowered his head again, taking a nipple into his mouth before she stepped back.
“Uh-uh-uh. You touch me, and we’ll never make it into the shower.”
“Birth control?” The words sounded like they pained him.
“I’m covered, and I’m clean.” Her words came out with bated breath.
He nodded. “Me too.”
“Good to know you won’t get pregnant,” she teased.
“I’m clean.” His voice deepened, went huskier.
His gaze reminded her of a wolf watching his prey. He yanked his clothes off, first his shirt and then his jeans, giving her a glimpse of the hard body that he’d been hiding under the layers. She drooled at the idea of kissing every inch of him. To take him into her mouth. The need drove her to move quicker until they were both beneath the water, adding more heat to the tepid water. Fog coated the mirrors as he lifted her, holding her against the cool wall.
He held her gaze as he slid her down his shaft. His heated, urgent breaths matched hers. She kissed him hard and fast as they soared to new heights. She clenched him tight as he pounded into her. Taking her, giving everything she needed until he rocked her over the edge. Colors and lights exploded behind her eyes. Her body clenched tight around him as he rocked once and then twice more before groaning his own release.
He showed her those amazing fireworks three more times that night.
