The alpha looked away. “Kind of?”

Which was probably a yes, going by the loose, rumpled T-shirt on his shoulders. Linus didn’t think there was space for himself under the bed, much less an alpha twice his size.

“But... It can’t be comfortable there.”

Storm fidgeted. “It’s okay. I didn’t want to scare you with my presence.”

“So you would have just... stayed under the bed until I left for class?”

“Basically, yeah.”

Linus opened and closed his mouth. This was insane. “No one has done this for me before. It seems... a bit much.”

Another shrug. “I would do a lot to keep you safe.”

“But nothing’s attacking me right now.”

“I’d rather not wait for something to show up.”

Now that there was no more threat of a home invader, Linus sagged weakly back into his pillows. “Okay, but maybe you could... not scare me like that the next time?”

Storm glanced up. “You would let me come back?”

Linus laughed quietly. “I don’t think I can stop you. You have a key.”

“You could... You could change the locks.” Storm wet his lips and almost looked nervous.

“That might be a little extreme,” Linus admitted.

“Really? Other people have freaked out over less.”

Linus shrugged. “You’re not so bad.”

“If you say so.” Storm rubbed his mouth, as though he regretted telling Linus to change the locks. He looked so ill at ease that Linus scrambled for something to say.

“I didn’t think there was enough space under my bed. Especially not for sleeping. Maybe you could use the couch instead? It’s softer. Or you could just make sure the locks are working so you don’t have to be here.”

Storm shook his head. “I’d rather be here. Closer to you.”

“That feels really weird,” Linus said. “I can’t say I’m used to having another person living in my space.”

An odd look crossed Storm’s face. “Trust me, I’ll stay out of your way. It’ll be as though I wasn’t here at all.”

Linus stared, Storm’s words slowly filtering through his mind. “How often have you spent the night here?”

The alpha looked away. “I’d rather not answer that, if you don’t mind.”

So... probably more than he was willing to admit.

Linusstilldidn’t feel unsafe or creeped out, so he shrugged. “Well, if that is all, I have to get going.”

Storm grimaced. “Yeah, what was that about? Why did your alarm ring so early?”

“I have to do a delivery.”

“Of a baby?”

Linus gaped. “No! I’m collecting some ingredients. For my mom’s ice cream.”
