"How are you feeling?" he asked as his eyes scanned her face.

I hung back and watched from the end of the bed.

"I'm okay," she told him. Her voice was calm but there was something different about her and I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

"You put yourself in danger," Kyle began to lecture. "You could have died."

"But I didn't." She was right but it could have ended so differently and if it had we would be preparing for her funeral.

"You didn't, and if it weren't for you, we would be dead. Thank you."

She shrugged it off. "Who would have thought Bay, who couldn't do anything right, would have saved the day?" she asked. I frowned, not liking the way she described herself. She was a strong female werewolf who had risked her life to save ours.

She had come into a dangerous situation without fear of her own safety.

"You're one of the bravest people I know. And I'm glad you have my back," her brother said.

She smiled at him. It softened her features. "You're lucky to have me," she quipped in a teasing tone.

"We all are," Kyle confirmed, but there was no teasing in his voice.

She wouldn't know how close we'd come to death. It had been like opening the door and peering inside. There was no definitive explanation for Flynn's actions. And there was a chance we would never know.

For someone who was so strict with their beliefs and what was right and wrong, he would be going through so much turmoil. His action would have repercussions throughout his life. I wondered if he had thought about that before he had taken Travis out.

"So what's happening with the Keepers?" she asked, looking between her brother and Kyle.

Was she asking what happened to Flynn?

"We're forming an alliance with Harrison and some of the other Keepers. They've covered up what's happened here and are returning to the Keepers' head office to ensure no one finds out about Crystal."

She looked preoccupied as she listened. She pressed her lips together and clasped her hands. I could tell she wanted to know about Flynn but refused to ask.

"He was here," I revealed. No one had to ask who I was talking about. They knew.

"What did he want?" she asked begrudgingly. She wanted to know but she didn't want to admit it.

"He didn't say anything but Harrison asked about James and you."

She looked disappointed and sad. Kyle looked from her to me.

"I'm just glad you're okay," he said before he leaned closer to her and embraced her.

"I'll be fine," she promised him with a weak smile.

Kyle gave her shoulder a squeeze before he took me by the hand and led me out of the room.

"Where to now?" I asked, looking around as he walked. His fingers gripped tightly around mine, like he was scared to let go.

"Back to our room," he explained. "We're both tired."

I couldn't think of anything else that I would rather do so I followed quietly behind him.

He greeted a few of the pack members as we made our way into the house and upstairs to our room. It was still weird to think of it as ours. Inside the room, he closed the door after I entered, shutting out the outside world.
