"I'm sorry," she said again, and I gave her an attempted smile that didn't mask my inner feelings.

"It's okay. I understand why," I said. "I'm just glad I had you."

She teared up as she hugged me, and I felt emotional as well.

"No more running," she said as she pulled away. "You can finally have the life you always wanted."

For the first time, I wasn't running. It would take some getting used to, not having to look over my shoulder knowing my life was in danger. Granted we had formed an alliance with a small rebellious group of Keepers but my secret was safe for the moment.

There was always the chance I would be discovered but hopefully Harrison would be able to give us a heads-up if there was something to fear. We had someone on the inside.

I nodded, feeling teary. There had been so many times I had hoped and wished for a normal life.

I helped her back to her room. Once she was settled, I left. I felt tired but I went to look for Kyle. It didn't take long. I found him with the rest of the group in the living room of the main house.

As I entered the room, Kyle pulled his gaze away from Cade, who was talking. The moment our eyes met, something lit up in his. I wondered if mine did the same when I saw him.

I walked to him. He put his arm around me and pulled me close.

"I still don't like it," Cade said, looking agitated.

"We don't have a choice," Keri said in a resigned tone. "I can keep Curtis working on a way to fight them."

The spray was a way but there had to be a more effective method to weaken them or take them out without affecting our ability to fight them.

"We know there is still a potential for a war with them," Keri added.

Deep in our hearts we wanted to sigh with relief but we knew it was only temporary.

Cade and Blake nodded. Keri looked at Kyle for his response.

"You're right. We keep our security tight and we cover all our bases." He was in agreement.

Scarlett tried to smother a yawn. Cade smiled affectionately at her.

"Okay, guys. I need to get Scar home," he said, helping her to her feet.

"I think we need to put into place a regular meeting," Keri suggested before she stood up and Blake stood beside her.

Kyle nodded. "Let me know when and where."

Kyle let go of me to hug his sister goodbye. As he shook Cade's hand, I hugged Scarlett.

"I'm so glad he found you," she whispered to me. It made me feel guilty for trying to run away.

Eventually everyone was gone and it was just the two of us.

"You look tired," he said, and I nodded.

"Let's go and get some rest," I suggested as I extended my hand to him.

"I want nothing more," he said, and I waited for thebut. "But I need to go and check on Bay quickly."

I understood. "I'll go with you."

He took my hand in his and we walked to the medical center. It was getting dark and I looked up at the sky. It was the first time the stars sparkled brilliantly and I felt hope for the future.

Bay was sitting up when we entered. James was still sitting beside her. Kyle walked to the empty side and she looked at him nervously.
