I let go of my father's hand to take Kyle's in mine. He pulled me into his arms and hugged me close. The touch swept peace through me, making me feel like I was complete. I hung on to that feeling, knowing it would be one of the last times we would touch.

Kyle's lips brushed against my cheek. I felt his pain.

Why?I asked. If he knew there was no way out, why had he followed me?

Because your path is mine,he answered. In life and death.

I didn't want to show emotion but his words made my eyes sting and begin to water.

"Sorry to interrupt," Travis said, cutting across our intense reunion. Kyle gave him a glare as his hold around me tightened a little.

Hayden shifted slightly and I gave him a side glance. There was no emotion in his eyes when they met mine. He was a Keeper, totally void of emotion and about to follow whatever orders Travis gave him.

There was not going to be a rescue party. We would all face the repercussions of a decision I had made.

Travis glared at Harrison.

"You have broken the law," he began to say in a deadly tone. "Mating with someone who is not of our kind breaks our most important laws we take an oath to abide by. You have sealed your fate."

Travis walked to me.

"You should never have been born," he said, and Kyle stepped in front of me, trying to protect me. Travis glared at Kyle before his eyes found mine. "You will die for the actions that brought you into this world."

Kyle's fists tightened at his sides, and I could feel the anger emanating from him.

Travis looked at Kyle.

"And you will die for loving her."

It was the truth. The only thing that Kyle had done wrong was to be my mate. That hadn't even been a decision he had made himself. Our destiny had chosen it for him.

It was difficult not to think back at the series of decisions and actions that had led us to this point. My thoughts were filled with 'what ifs' that couldn't change anything. If I had left earlier and not run into a rogue who'd attacked me, all of this might never have happened. Instead of being attacked and being saved by Flynn, I would have been long gone.

Travis moved to stand in front of James.

"And you will die just for trying to help them," he said with a shrug of his shoulders.

My eyes scanned the faces of the people who stood beside me and I felt an overwhelming feeling of sadness.

I'm sorry,I told James. He looked at me and a whisper of a smile appeared on his face.

I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Travis took a step back. Flynn stood beside him with his arms crossed.

"So which one goes first?" Travis asked, allowing his gaze to sweep from one of us to the other.

"I will," I said, stepping around my mate.

"No," Kyle commanded, stopping me with a hand that gripped my wrist. "I will go first."

"No," I gasped. I couldn't live through that. Kyle looked back at me.

I can't watch you die, he admitted, and I felt a tear slide down my cheek.

I can't either.

Travis smiled at us. He was reveling in our pain. It actually seemed to excite him. It was disgusting. I had always known that he was evil but seeing it for myself sickened my stomach.
