He leaned over her, gathering her legs around his hips, and moved very carefully inside her. She wrapped her arms around his neck, relishing in the feel of his chest against hers. She stared up into his eyes as he started moving slowly against her. Sex for her had always been fast and over very quickly but he was taking his time, clearly enjoying every stroke, every touch. He was in no rush and she loved that.

She ran her hands down his back, her fingers tracing the indent of his spine.

‘Is this OK?’ Luke asked.

She let out a sigh of blissful contentment. ‘It’s lovely.’

He paused and a frown crossed his face. ‘We could change positions or I could—’

She caught his face in her hands. ‘Luke, I don’t want to change a thing, this is utter perfection.’

‘Well,’ he let out a huff of relief. ‘Perfection sounds a lot better than lovely.’

She laughed. ‘You are the most incredible man I’ve ever met and I honestly couldn’t be happier right now.’

He carried on moving against her and it was utterly divine.

‘And you don’t need to wait for me, you’ve already given me two toe-curling orgasms, it’s your turn.’

He smiled. ‘It doesn’t work like that. Besides, I’m just getting started.’

She let her fingers play against his back. She wasn’t sure she had another orgasm in her but then he seemed to change his angle slightly which made her gasp with surprise. He kissed her, shifting her legs higher round his waist, and the feel of him made her moan against his lips. He moved his mouth to her neck, the sensitive spot right below her ear, and she clung to his shoulders, that feeling building in her already, spreading out to every part of her body as if little fireworks were going off everywhere. He moved his mouth to her breast and she arched against him as that feeling tightened in her stomach. Then he moved his mouth to her heart, givingher a long, lingering kiss right there and it was so sweet, so loving, it completely unravelled her. When he pulled back to look at her, it was the look of adoration and maybe even love that sent her spiralling over the edge, taking him with her. She shouted out his name before he kissed her hard, holding her tight as she fell apart.

The storm was raging outside, wind roaring through the roof tiles making them rattle. Rain was thundering so hard against the roof and windows, Flick wouldn’t be surprised if she woke up tomorrow and found the house had been taken to Oz but right then she couldn’t be happier as she lay cuddled up next to Luke.

‘I can’t believe we’re here,’ Luke said.

Flick snorted with laughter. ‘Mutually agreed nakedness.’

He laughed. ‘Oh, yes, I think my inappropriate crush had started even then. I never say the right things when I like a woman, I become a bumbling mess.’

‘I like your bumbling mess. Everything about you is just so damned likeable, I like you exactly how you are and I’ve liked you for a while too. I thought you were going to kiss me in the secret cupboard and I really wanted that but then you backed away. Why?’

‘Because I’d bundled you in a cupboard and told you to be quiet. Kissing you under those circumstances didn’t feel very… consensual.’

She smiled as her heart filled with love for him. He really was the loveliest man she’d ever met.

‘And I never imagined you would like me back,’ Luke said. ‘That seemed too good to be true.’

‘Why would you doubt that? You’re lovely, kind, funny. Amazing in bed.’

He laughed and then frowned. ‘I haven’t had the greatest track record when it comes to women. I’ve had two semi-serious relationships. I loved them both but they didn’t return those feelings.’

‘Oh Luke.’

‘It’s OK, it’s just the way things work out sometimes. But I suppose it dented my confidence. With Sophie, we were friends long before we started sleeping together. And we had so much fun hanging out. Looking back I don’t think it was much more than friends with benefits but I loved her so much. After a few months I told her I loved her and she smiled and stroked me on the cheek and said she would never see me as anything more than a friend. I was heartbroken. And then there was Martine. Now that was a toxic relationship. She was a one-night stand that dragged on for months. I was smitten. I cringe now when I think about her. I have no idea what I saw in her but she really didn’t like or respect me and I don’t know why I stayed as long as I did when she belittled everything I did. She kept telling me that I could never get anyone better than her, that no one else would ever want me, and I guess I just started to believe it. She dumped me when I told her I loved her. She laughed and said I was too nice and boring for her.’

‘I’m so sorry, what a horrible thing to say to someone. And you’re not boring, not at all. I love being around you and talking to you or watching you work. But this sounds like her issue not yours. She would probably be much better suited to someone like my ex, Ryan, than I was. He was pretty toxic too. He liked weird stuff in the bedroom, she probably would have liked that. But dumping you meant she missed out on being with the most incredible man I’ve ever met.’

Luke smiled and kissed her. ‘Thank you.’

‘So I’m guessing sex wasn’t particularly fun with her either.’

‘No, she was always criticising or laughing at what I was doing.’

‘Christ, I imagine that left your confidence in tatters.’

‘I haven’t been with a woman since Martine. I didn’t feel like I had anything to offer.’
