Then, she handed me a dozen blue folders. These units on the following five floors have been sold and have some custom requests. The realtor says they will sell out seventy percent before Gentry finishes with construction.

Finally, she handed me a stack of red folders. “These are applications for food vendors for the ground floor. They will need customization depending on who you pick.”

She squeezed my shoulder. “I need those done today. You also must do a walkthrough before you leave tomorrow.” She looked at me hopefully. “If you can squeeze it in, the demolition crew would like you to talk to them about bringing the old building down at 121 Wilton.Getting that done before people start moving in at 123 Wilton would be great. Rodney would like to go with you for that. I know it’s a lot just trying to work with your schedule.”

“I can do all that. Thanks for keeping everything running so smoothly. I appreciate it.”

“Of course. We are a team! Rodney is increasingly interested in your business.” She looked at me like I had kicked her.

“I’ll talk to him.” Sarah was making it clear again that she wanted him to attend college.

I gave her a closed-mouthed smile. “Don’t worry, Uncle Aaron is on it. “

She got up and hugged me around my shoulders. “Thank you, Aaron. I love you.”

She sat back down and returned to whatever she was working on. I could feel the unspoken words, but nothing came from her. It weirded me out a lot. I was used to her good-natured ribbing.

I grabbed the first stack and started looking through the contents. Daisy landed on my desk and went sliding to the edge. “Come here.” She walked over and put her head up under my chin. “You are such a good girl.” She made a choo noise against my chest, and I took the time to pet her. “Let me get work done. Go settle.” She flew up to a perch in the corner. Rose flew up next to her, and they sat quietly, looking down.

I was working my way through the repairs that Rodney found. He documented everything from outlets not working to scratched paint. My nephew would be an asset to this company, and I dreaded telling Sarah. I still wished he would follow his baseball opportunities. It was becoming increasingly clear that he was disenchanted with pursuing baseball as a career. He had a real chance at the MLB, but what he doesis up to him. I’ll still offer him an incentive for getting a degree. I think it was essential and not for my sister’s sake.

I went through the paperwork. The whole time, I waited for Sarah to say something about my truck being here overnight or that I was again wearing different clothes. She just silently did her work. I was suspicious. I finished the list that Rodney had compiled. I then started looking at the sold units.

I sent emails to carpenters and plumbers. I could approve ninety percent of the customization requests, primarily built-in bookshelves, convection ovens, and jacuzzi tubs. There was one unit I needed to check measurements on before I could agree to the changes. I prided myself on being flexible since these apartments are considered luxury. People paid a premium for them, and I delivered.

A little after 1 p.m. I realized I was hungry and should eat. I pulled up the delivery app and ordered a bacon cheeseburger with no bun, extra cheese with caramelized onions, fries, and a blended coffee with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. I shared the order with Sarah and told her to put in what she wanted.

“Is Rodney coming back here today?” she shrugged. "I’ll find out and order for him, too, if he is."

I leaned back in my chair.

Thinking about you. Miss you.

MyFantasy: I must admit I miss you too. Is that ridiculous?

I hope not. I like getting to know you.

MyFantasy: Good. Ilike where this is going.

MyFantasy: And where this will lead.

Heh. Oh, good, now I am getting hard at work. What have you done?

MyFantasy: I’m just that good.

Hell, yes, you are!!! Have you eaten since breakfast?

MyFantasy: No. I just made lunch for Charlie.

I can’t make it over, but I’ll share lunch with you. I’ll have a meal delivered to you shortly.

MyFantasy: How romantic is this?

LOL, I don’t know. Dating? is all new to me, but at least I can talk to you while we eat. I’ll Facetime when we get our food.

MyFantasy: Sounds good. Talk to you soon.

I ordered River the same thing I had. I added special instructions about what should be delivered to River’s apartment first. I figured I could call him as soon as the rest of the order arrived.
