He quirked his brows. “Why not?”
“Well. . .she took the placement test for Mulberry.”
“That’s the best private middle school in the East.”
“Yes and TT loved the school when we did the tour. The teachers were super nice. The students were smiling and waving at us. But then. . .the administrators had her come back and do another test the next day.”
The happy expression left his face. “Why?”
“They didn’t tell us. She did it. And then the day after that. . .they had her test again, and it was another new test.” Already, I could sense the violence rising within his frame.
He sneered. “Why the fuck did they keep testing her?”
“Well, calm down.” I moved my hands to his chest. “I was getting angry too but yesterday the administrators sat us down. By us I mean, Jo, TT, and my new nosy aunts.”
Lei snickered.
“Anything to do with TT and those aunts are right there.”
He chuckled.
“Anyway, the administrators explained why they kept retesting her.”
“And?”
“They think she’s too advanced for middle school. They want her to skip straight to high school.”
His jaw tightened. “She’s too young.”
“I know. She’s supposed to be at the beginning of middle school, but. . .TT’s scores are off the charts. They said she’s performing at a level far beyond her age, and they don’t think keeping her in middle school is fair to her.”
Lei processed the information.
“And you know. . .I realized that at Glory Middle School. . .she was just in the background, quiet and floating. The teacher was too busy with close to forty students to even notice TT’s progress. Meanwhile, Mulberry sees her genius and they want to send scholars and all types of people around to help.” My nerves flared some more. “Anyway. . .Jo thinks we should force her to go to high school and that TT is the next astronaut or some shit. Chloe’s vote is to keep her in middle school so she won’t get bullied in high school.”
“And my Aunts?”
“They say they back whatever TT wants but Aunt Min has opened up a new space in the Palace to be TT’s special library.” I leaned my little head to the side. “What do you think?”
“Well. . .I understand what Chloe is saying but TT is now the Mountain Master’s little sister.” The line of his jaw twitched again. “No one is bullying her anywhere. She’ll have guards and I would personally come down there to deal with anyone messing with her.”
I blinked.
“What do you think, Moni?”
“TT is a genius and I’m out of my element with all of this.”
“What does TT think?”
“She’s terrified. She keeps saying everyone in high school isdevelopedand they’ll look at her like she’s some sort of monster. She doesn’t want to do homeschool either, so that’s not an option. And even more. . .she’s super uncomfortable with all the attention. She asked to do the tests over claiming that the scores will be low next time.”
A long heavy silence came.
“But. . .in the end, Lei. . .I don’t want TT to hide who she is and try and blend in with so callednormalpeople if God blessed her to be great.” I swallowed. “But I already made Chloe cry this week over my trying to push her in life. . .so I didn’t push the matter further with TT. Instead. . .I called Dima.”
Lei narrowed his eyes. “Dima?”
“Yes. He’s been helping me out—”
