“But he did later?”
“Well kind of. . .I did the speech that Chen and I, both agreed on and all was just fine, and then one of the reporters asked about the ring on my finger.”
“You told that them you were my fiancé?”
“Chen interrupted and said no comment. Apparently, Aunt Suzi and him want to do this big extravagant party announcing it—”
“Yet?” He leaned his head to the side.
“You know how I roll.”
His smile widened.
“I was too excited. So immediately, I started flashing the ring all in front of the cameras, telling them that you were my baby and we would get married. It wasn’t the most professional moment of my being Mountain Mistress. My picture and that ring was on every newspaper the next day.”
He chuckled, “Andthatwas when Chen had the heart attack?”
“Panic attack but yes. Fen and Duck took him to the hospital.”
“How is he?”
“He’s out and on a forced vacation at the beach house. Jo gave him a whole packet of weed gummies and to all of our shock, he took them and a stack of books.”
“And your sisters? How are they?”
My nerves flared. “Well. . .Chloe and I got in an argument because when our mail from Glory was transferred to us we discovered that she was accepted by five colleges. Good ones too. She’s so fucking smart.”
“Then, why did you both argue?”
“Now that she’s in the Palace, Chloe doesn’t want to go to college anymore. She wants to. . .chill.”
Lei laughed.
“That’s not funny.”
“Mysister, Chloe can chill if she wants to chill, Moni.”
I rolled my eyes.
“She’s wealthy now. She has more choices, and. . .she should stay in East for a while. . .” The line of his jaw twitched. “Let her stay if she wants. It’s her life.”
“I know. I know. It took me another day to calm down but I am now going to mind my business and accept Chloe’s decision. Besides the argument made her cry and Aunt Min threatened to attack me due to Chloe’s crying.”
He laughed again.
“That isn’t funny.”
“I missed a lot.”
“Jo decided to take you up on that comic book store in the East.”
He blinked. “Oh really?”
“Yes. She plans to open it in six months and has been ordering stuff. She wants to take a trip to Japan and meet with special distributors. Banks wants to go with her. He says he needs a vacation.” I sighed. “Jo also met someone in the Palace. One of Master Wu’s assistants.”
“Very interesting.” He placed his hands on my waist. “And TT?”
“She is currently not talking to me.”
