Char sighed. “Oh, wow.”

I chuckled as I traced faceless designs around her belly button. “Feeling better?”

She looked over at me. “I’m sorry, Teo.”

My eyes met her. “For?”

Her eyes grew sorrowful. “For not giving you the benefit of the doubt.”

I propped myself up on my elbow. “Not quite what I was gunning for, but I’ll take it.”

She giggled. “And what were you gunning for?”

I crawled on top of her and spread her legs wide open. “Possibly a, ‘I’m so sorry for leaving you for someone else and I swear to never do it again’.”

She slid her hands up my arms. “Don’t keep me locked up as a prisoner and I won’t.”

“And if I free you, only for you to leave?”

“You have to understand that my life is back in the States. And if we stand any chance at taking down my mother, eventually one of us is going to have to go back.”

She had a point. “We’ll talk about it later. Right now, I just want to enjoy you.”

I dipped down to kiss her lips, but what I received in return was a guttural growl. My eyes whipped open and I saw the pain wafting behind her own, so I hopped off the bed. I scrambled to get my pants on before throwing open my bedroom door.

Then, I put my fingers in my mouth and whistled.

“I need a doctor! Now!”

My head of security rushed up the steps. “Got someone calling now, Mr. Emiliano. What else can I do in the meantime?”

Anger surged through my veins. “Have your men prep the apartment upstairs to outfit a hospital room, if necessary.”

He nodded. “On it.”

I peered over my shoulder and saw tears glistening in Char’s eyes. The way she held her head and her stomach worried me beyond belief. And now, more than ever, I wanted Lorenzo’s head on a fucking stake in my front yard. I wanted to burn his entire family to the ground and dance upon their ashes.

So, I strode to my office and started planning.

“Mr. Emiliano?”

My head of security stuck his head in and I didn’t bother looking up. “What?”

“The doc’s here. Want him to take Char up to the apartment?”

I peeked up at him. “Is it ready like I asked?”

“Almost.”

I looked back at my computer. “Have him take her there when the room is ready. And don’t let either of them out of your sight.”

He nodded. “Yes, Mr. Emiliano.”

The first thing I did was make a list of all the threats currently swimming around on my plate. And the biggest one was Rosana. I had to find a way to deal with the fact that she knew way too much about how my empire operated. And now that she was a scorned woman who had been tossed out on her ass, I had to assume that she’d start selling that information for a price.
