“That was quick,” I mused, opening my door and sliding in after Violet exited the gas station.
“He on the move already?” she asked, leaning over to see what I was seeing. “Mm.”
She moved us to the side of the building and we waited twenty minutes for him to pass us by.
“You think he’s headed back home?”
“Maybe…” she tapped the steering wheel. “But it’d be a waste of a trip not to see where he went from here.”
She glanced at me.
“Could be a bust, could be fruitful. What you think?”
I looked at the direction Landell was riding off into, feeling like her question was a test.
“Let’s wait and see if he’s headed home or not.”
She smiled and nodded, leaning back in her seat.
“Don’t doubt yourself, Blair. You know how to deduce what’s what.”
I bit my lip.
“I rarely doubt myself these days,” I told her. “But I want to get this right, now that Sean and I are married and I’m his second.”
She hummed.
“We’re in the same boat now…” our eyes met. “So, it’s best we keep an open line of communication just for us and Gianna.”
I nodded, feeling like we’d entered into our sisterhood era just then, and glanced at the phone.
“He’s def heading into O’Sullivan territory.”
She started the car up and pulled from the gas station, heading toward Landell’s last stop.
It was a straight shot and something I learned about Violet was her excellent sense of direction. She never missed a turn or exit.
We drove for about twenty-five minutes before coming up on a split in the road that only went left.
Surrounded by trees, I sat up and forward. “The fuck was he doing back here.”
Violet rolled to a stop outside of a cabin, and if I had to guess there were more blocked by the trees on both sides. There were no lights on and she immediately cut ours.
We both reached for our guns and got out, looking around before taking measured steps as we split—Violet taking the front while I went to the back. It didn’t look like anyone was here but you could never be too sure.
I peeked through the glass door with nothing covering it and then wiggled the handle, finding it unlocked.Mm.
Violet was already inside by the time I made it to the front.
“No one’s here but all of his shit is,” she said as we stared at all he’d accumulated. “Look at this.”
She lifted the lid on a bin with the tip of her gun and I frowned, doing the same with the one next to it. Inside were guns galore but the duffle bags were filled with money.
“Is it ours or the Albanians?”
Our eyes met and we both smiled.
“Doesn’t matter,” she said. “It’s ours now. Let’s see how far he’ll get without his insurance policy.”
