I murdered the only man I ever loved on Christmas Eve.
When karma comes calling, there’s a piece of me that feels like I deserved it, but the rest of me refuses to take it lying down. I live with my sins, and since my attacker is able to buy his way out of his, I know I have to find a different way to get even.
One that’s a little more unorthodox.
I may not be able to avenge myself, but the beauty of no longer fearing the dark is that I’m not afraid of the demons that lurk there, either.
I just have to summon one.
It seems simple enough — read the words, light the candles, invite it in. But when I succeed only to find out the demon I summoned is the one I created myself, reality shifts. A bond I thought couldn’t be broken is tested, and I’m thrown into a world where Christmas never ends and the devil I know is trying to make me just like him.
After all, who better to dance with the devil than the one who taught him the steps?
