“I mean, I’m coming to the office with you. I won’t get in the way, but I thought you said I had a lot to learn, so why not start right away?”

Because I’m not ready to spend so much time with you yet.“Because you need to rest and take a break for a few days.”

“Kingsley, I’ve done nothing but rest for forever. I’m ready to get to work today. Please. I’ll go crazy if I have to sit around doing nothing for a few days, just waiting.”

“You’re in London. Nobody gets bored in London.”

She throws up her hands. “They are if they’re just sitting around waiting to start their new life!”

I sigh, picking up the package that Theodore hands me. Without looking, I know it’s an arugula and walnut salad. But it feels heavier than usual.

“Er, sir, I packed two,” he explains. “One for you and one for—”

“Me!” Luna chimes in with a big smile.

“We’re going to have to talk about loyalty, Theodore,” I say to my butler, shaking my head as I make my way out of the kitchen, with Luna following close behind.

“Is that a yes?” she chirps, her voice bursting with hope.

“You’ll sit back, be quiet, and not cause any problems.”

“Yes!” She gives Theodore a high five, and then she hugs my arm for a second before running out to the waiting car. “Yay! You won’t even know I’m there.”

“I highly doubt that.”

She grins. “I will be totally invisible. Can I ask questions?”

“If we’re alone, yes.”

“Can I make suggestions?”

“No.”

“What if I raise my hand?”

“That doesn’t sound like being invisible to me.”

She laughs and settles back on the car seat, staring out the window, her face a cornucopia of excitement.

And I know I’m going to need a lot more than one cup of coffee to get through the morning, but it might be worth it to see her smile like that.

“Marcus, set up an office for Miss Pham,” I say as I step onto my office floor.

“I don’t need my own—”

Marcus follows, taking notes, eyeing Luna. “For how long, sir?”

“Let’s start with a day.”

“She can have mine. I’ll share with Julie.”

“Thank you, Marcus. I appreciate it.” I place my briefcase on my desk and pull out the day’s files.

Luna looks at Marcus and then me. “But I don’t ne—”

“Also, please ask IT to send someone up. I have a few extra stipulations for her equipment.”

“Oh, I have my phon—” she starts.
