“I told you I missed you.”
“Oh. I thought you were kidding.” She turns around and drapes her arm over my neck and leans in for a kiss.
It feels like we’ve been doing it for a million years, as well as it being the first time.
“I’m sorry we didn’t get much time to talk today,” I whisper.
“It’s okay. I was just being silly before.”
I brush the hair from her face, and she beams sleepily at me. “Not silly. I hadn’t thought about how it must’ve felt from your perspective. My mother has always been a messy area. I was too busy dealing with her and I forgot about you. That’s the way she is. All attention must be on her. Good, and infinitely more often, bad.” My lips graze the corner of her mouth. “If you’re ever feeling something, you can tell me, okay?”
Her chin tilts, her eyes opening wide for the first time since I came home. “I guess. It’s nothing. I was just wondering why you’re interested in me. Something your mother said made me question a few things.”
Fuck. That. Bitch.
I frame her face between my palms. “Luna, listen to me. Never ever listen to a word that woman says, do you hear me? Not a goddamn syllable. No good can come from it. Ever.”
I release her face. The familiar bitterness of dealing with my mother prickles on the edge of my tongue, and I sit up to put some distance between us. I don’t want to kiss her with that toxicity in my mouth.
“What did she say to you?”
“It’s nothing. She just asked who I was. And when you didn’t introduce me, I just… didn’t know if you were embarrassed by me”
Her words, her doubt, slashes at me.
“Luna. No, no. It’s not like that at all. I was just trying to protect you. She is toxic. It’s better to play dead around her rather than ever have her acknowledge you. That’s all that was. I promise.”
I lay her gently back on the bed, sliding my body between her legs so that I can stare down at her face.
“I could never be embarrassed by you.”
She nods, and the doubt in her sweet brown eyes slowly fades.
She runs her fingers through my hair, her nails against my scalp making me shiver.
“Kingsley?”
“Yes, Luna?”
She smiles, wriggles under me, and wraps her legs around my waist.
“I want you inside me. Now.”
I groan, dropping my head onto her chest, my cock hardening in milliseconds. “I thought you were tired.”
“I was. Now I’ve slept, and I want to come with you inside me. I touched myself thinking of you while I was waiting for you to come home.”
“You’re killing me, sweetheart,” I whisper huskily, the need for her already clawing up my throat as I reach between her legs, finding her bare and just as wet as I’d hoped.
She bites her lip, arching her back at my first touch.
“I told you. I’ve been waiting for you. But I didn’t want to come without you.”
“That’s a good girl. Don’t you ever dare come without me, okay? Don’t ever let me miss it.”
She moans against my lips as my fingers round her hardened clit, her hips rocking against me, needing more.
Every movement stokes my own arousal.
