“You have a lot of explaining to do.” She hisses, and I laugh.
“Yes, Mom.” I pinch her before grabbing her waist as she pulls off.
We are back at the clubhouse in fifteen minutes, and it’s buzzing with activity.
“Shock, a word,” Spark calls over the excitement.
I walk into Church and frown when Wolf and Priest are both talking over a pile of papers on the table. They both look up at me and sigh as if relieved to see me.
“What’s going on?” I cross my arms over my chest, and they swallow hard.
I point at them.
“Don’t try to handle me. Just talk!” I hate when they pull this bullshit.
“Can you look at these?” Priest says, stepping away from the table so I can take the place next to Wolf.
I glance down and look at pictures of five different women. All are dead, including Allie, and gasp.
“Other than your co-worker, do you recognize them?” I nod.
I point at each photo and name them.
“She’s a member of HAVOC. She worked at my hair salon. A barista at my coffee shop and a teacher at Deacon’s school. Oh God, was this all last night?” I look at Wolf, who’s staring over my shoulder.
“No, baby, not all last night.” I turn at the familiar voice, and my mouth drops open.
“Daddy?”
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
WOLF
When Officer Garcia, aka Hannah’s father, showed up at our front door, I was more than surprised to see him.
He’s been retired for a few years now, enjoying his life traveling. But from the grim look on his face, I knew he was here to give me bad news.
“Franklin, good to see you. Wish it was under better circumstances.” Never a sentence you want to hear from family, especially a homicide detective, retired or not.
Now here I stand, ready to break the world to keep my club safe, and before I can say shit, he steps in.
“Jesse, come have a seat.” I’d asked him to stay out of view until I broke the news to his daughter.
I see where she gets her listening skills from.
“Daddy, why are you here?” I raise an eyebrow at the man once he has his baby girl firmly wrapped in a hug.
I give him a moment to ignore me, knowing if the tables were turned, I need one myself.
I think back to my little bundle still at the hospital with her mom and frown, missing them deeply. I need to get back to them, but first, I have to ensure Hannah’s safety.
“I’m here as a favor to John.” He looks up at him with big blue eyes.
“Jesse,” I urge him, and he finally relents and helps Shock sit before taking the one next to her, never letting go of her hand.
I tap the table to get their attention.
“Here’s what we know.” I rearrange the files by the victim’s name and point at them as I talk.
