I flush, biting my lip as his touch lowers, lowers, finding me with the kind of familiarity that never fails to take my breath away. “You’re right,” I say, voice wavering with pleasure. “We might need to try every night, until you go.”

“Go where?” He murmurs, teasing, as he shifts to kiss me, gently pinning my body with his. “I’m right here, Kat.”

I run my hands over his chest, feeling his heart as it beats against my palms. Yes, he is. Right here. With me. Right now. Right now, everything is as it should be; after an eternity of it all going wrong, everything, right now, is right.

How did we get here?But it’s not luck, and therefore, there’s no danger of losing it—everything we have, we’ve fought for. Everything we have is ours because we made it that way. This life, this world. And each other.

“I love you,” he murmurs, his mouth against mine.

I smile, and say as he once did to me: “I know.”
