I saw Kye look between me and Mateus with a look as if to ask what had been going on between us.
“Before you ask, we were sitting down having a chat about how I became a model.”
I wasn’t sure where to go with this conversation, but I was quickly saved by Mateus.
“You know, Aliciana has always been interested in fashion. I know she would be ecstatic to find out I was spending time with the world-famous model Lila Goddard. She would be sending loads of questions to ask her, so I thought I would just find out all I could and then tell her once everything was done.”
I wasn’t sure if Kye was buying this, but it was all we had to go with for now. I just hoped he didn’t ask me too many questions about Aliciana. I didn’t even know who she was, but I was guessing their sister.
I finished the coffee I was making for Kye and walked over and put it on the table. “Sit down while I make lunch.”
Kye sat down reluctantly, and before I continued with the preparations, I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Thank you again for looking after me earlier. I am sorry for the trouble I’m causing you both.”
Kye got up from his seat and put his arms around me. It was the first time he had shown any affection to me since I had moved in with him, except for when I was upset.
“You are not causing us any trouble, Bonita. Neither of us wants to see you go through what you did this morning. We will be here until we find out who is doing this and stop him.”
I looked over at the flowers that were still on the table, and a chill came over my body. Kye noticed and pulled me into a hug, gesturing to Mateus to remove them. I found myself burying my head in Kye’s chest as he held me. I pulled away slightly and looked up to meet his eyes. There was a brightness in them that I had never seen there before. Had I finally broken down the final barrier? I wasn’t so sure, but by the end of the day, I was going to find out.
The rest of our lunch was spent chatting among ourselves about the things Mateus and Kye got up to when they were kids. At first, I could see that Kye was slightly uneasy about how the conversation was going, but after a while, he seemed to relax and join in the fun, even telling a few embarrassing stories about Mateus. Mateus didn’t seem to care; I thought he was just happy to be back with his younger brother. We had moved back into the front room, and I found myself back on the sofa, lying in Kye’s arms. Anyone who didn’t know us would have thought we were lovers, and that was how it felt. But we were a million miles away from that.
It was then that Mateus said something that really made me sit up and listen.
“I forgot to mention earlier, I have your Harley on the back of my truck. All cleaned and tuned and ready to go.”
I turned to Kye with a massive grin on my face. “You have a Harley Davidson?”
It had always been a dream of mine to go out on a motorbike. I had never done it before because I was worried something would happen and it would be the end of my 1odelling career. I guessed the guys I had previously been out with, I didn’t trust enough. But I trusted Kye with my life, and the thought of being pressed against him on a ride excited me.
“Yeah. I haven’t ridden for a while.”
I couldn’t contain my excitement, making Mateus laugh.
“Please take me out for a ride this afternoon. I promise I will hold on tight, and I won’ be any trouble. I won’t ask for another thing. Please.”
I watched as Kye nervously swallowed.
“Bonita, I’m not so sure I…”
“Pleeeaassee.”
I wasn’t past begging at this point and would do anything to get him to take me out. I saw him looking down at me, then across to Mateus, who just shrugged his shoulders.
“You’re alone on this one, bro. You know me and motorbikes.”
Kye looked back at me, and the next words out of his mouth made me squeal in delight and fling my arms around him.
“Okay. But you have to do exactly what I say and wear a crash helmet.”
