As he moved between her legs to put on a condom, she held out her arms. With all her being, she wanted him to make love to her. She didn’t have to think, only feel, but she knew she was in love with him. She was equally certain she would get hurt, but tonight, even though it would cause her pain later, she longed for his loving and his marvelous, sexy male body.
She felt this was a once-in-a-lifetime for her. So be it. She would never again know a man like Jake.
As he lowered himself, she spread her legs, wrapping them around his slender hips. She held him with her arms around him and he kissed her, his tongue going deep.
With her eyes closed tightly, she ran her fingers down his smooth back, down over his hard buns and the back of his thighs with their short, crisp hairs, while sensations bombarded her.
He entered her slowly, so slowly, and withdrew to enter her again. Gasping, she arched against him. Desiring him more with each drawn-out stroke, she held him tightly.
He continued thrusting, filling her slowly and withdrawing, and she matched his rhythm as she’d done when they’d danced that evening.
“Jake, love me,” she whispered, running her hands over him, trying to pull him closer so he would go deeper.
But he kept his control. “I want to pleasure you until you faint with ecstasy,” he whispered, running his tongue over the curve of her ear.
“Jake,” she cried out, clinging to him, moving faster against him.
Finally, his control was gone. When he pumped faster, harder, she moved with him, feeling a blinding need that built while she lost awareness of everything else and thrashed beneath him. She raised her hips, moving wildly as she climaxed with an intense orgasm that shot through her, hot, blinding, causing a roaring in her ears. Sensations rocked her and perspiration covered her while she cried out with rapture.
Pumping wildly, Jake’s control vanished. They moved together with her climaxing again only seconds before Jake.
Gradually, they slowed. He was covered with sweat, still holding her with his arms under her. He let his weight down, turned on his side, keeping her with him.
She held him, opening her eyes when he showered her face with light kisses.
“You’re fantastic,” he whispered. “Absolutely fantastic.” He brushed damp locks of blond hair away from her face, caressing her.
“You’re beautiful. You’re also the sexiest woman I’ve ever known,” he whispered.
“You must tell them all that because there is no way I’m the sexiest woman in your life.”
He raised up, propping his head on his hand to look at her as he continued to lightly comb long strands of her hair from her face. “Emily, you’re fantastic and tonight has been marvelous,” he said.
She smiled, running her fingers over his face, feeling the prickly stubble on his jaw and chin. His hair was tangled on his forehead.
“Move into my bedroom with me,” he whispered. “I want more than just working with you on the ranch and going to our own rooms at night. We could have magic nights. Magic days, too. We’ll be alone on the Long L Ranch at night.”
“Jake, tonight was an exception.”
He kissed her and stopped her talking. For an instant, she was tempted to wiggle away and tell him that she wouldn’t move in with him, but when she wiggled or even just tried to move a fraction, his arms tightened around her and he held her close.
“I don’t want to let you go, not tonight, not tomorrow. When I do, I want to know I can get you back,” he whispered. He leaned back to look at her. “Will you stay with me in my room this week? Give us this week together, Emily.”
“I wasn’t going to do this. The longer we’re together, the more it’ll hurt when we part.”
“I don’t think so,” he whispered, shifting slightly and running his hand over her hip and along her thigh.
The slightest touch stirred desire again. She thought if they kissed and made love, she would be satisfied and have enough memories to walk away with her heart relatively intact. Now she didn’t think so. She suspected that the more involved she was with him, the more it was going to hurt to say goodbye. And she would say goodbye.
She turned on her side to look at him and placed her hand on his jaw. “Tonight was special, very special.”
“Yes, it was and I don’t want it to end,” he agreed, twisting long locks of her hair in his fingers.
“There have been few men in my life,” she said, giving him a long look. “If we’re together in bed a lot more, I’ll fall deeply in love with you. We had tonight. That’s it. I have to step back to avoid a broken heart because you and I don’t fit together. We really don’t fit—not our lifestyles, not our families, not our backgrounds. You don’t want marriage, a family, kids. I do.”
He shook his head. “I can’t change. My family’s track record on commitment is lousy. And you know the secret we found, which just complicates the relationships that much more.”
“Let’s get the house fixed and say goodbye,” she said.
