“Absolutely!”

Her enthusiasm grated on my nerves. Maybe I should have been thrilled that a pretty girl was this excited about me joining them for breakfast. But all I could think was ‘Aspen would have just insulted me the entire time and pretended to hate me until I made her laugh.’ Well...snort was more like it. A small, genuine smile tugged at my mouth as the fond memory of her entered the forefront of my headspace. Unfortunately, that was short-lived by the reminder of her becoming fish food.

My stomach knotted as I made my way to the kitchen area. Grabbing a plate of breakfast pizza--which I’d quickly learned was Aspen’s favorite since she seemed to eat it every morning I saw her--I paired it with some orange juice, cashed out, and made my way back to Skylar.

“That was fast,” she acknowledged, looking over my plate with interest.

“Well, there’s no line...”

She threw her head back and laughed like what I’d said was the funniest thing on earth. Shifting uncomfortably in my seat, I plucked a sausage from my pizza slice and plopped it into my mouth. I knew I didn’t really know Skylar, and had only spoken to her on two or three occasions, but was she always this...annoying?

Fuck. Maybe I really was broken.
