I shake my head. “Just hold me. Carefully.”

“Of course,” he replies and lies next to me. I can feel a pulsing in my lower back, but I don’t regret it in the slightest. In this moment, I don’t regret anything.

I think about the mark that’s just beginning to slowly form on my back. Hunter’s mark. Just like he said, he’s claimed me.

Even as I come out of subspace, that seems like a wonderful thing. Hunter and I, together, forever.

“That’s quite a smile on your face,” he notes. “What are you thinking about that’s got you so happy?”

It feels like there are too many things to say. I’m thinking about being in college. I’m thinking about having new friends, new things to explore. I’m thinking about Hunter and the life we’ll build together. I’m thinking about finally understanding Cash and beginning to have a real relationship with him. Most of all, I’m thinking about the future and all the possibilities it holds.

“Forever,” I tell him. “I’m thinking about forever.”
