“The ice queen is never sad for anyone,” he said. “The Dinosaur Park. Tomorrow at nine a.m.”
“I’ll be there, Davis. You’d better have the crown, or you won’t get the money.” Sadie hung up the phone and stared at the men around her. Evie, Savannah, Piper, Addie, Kate, and Lucia were standing beside her.
“Girl squad will go in to make sure everything is cleared,” said Eric. “They’ll be your first line of defense. He won’t suspect women. He’s too much of a chauvinist. Stay in the open, Sadie. Don’t let him lure you into a private room, restroom, nothing.”
“I know,” she nodded. “I promise.”
“We’ll be arriving this evening,” said Fitch, looking at the women. “We’ll make sure that building is clear of explosives, and several of us will be hiding inside.” Piper stared at her husband, Rory.
“And where is my dear sweet husband going to hide?” she smirked.
“Somewhere you least expect it,” grinned Rory.
“What about all the kids and the school groups?” asked Sadie. “This is prime time for field trips.”
“If he asks the information desk, we’re prepared to say we don’t allow schools in until ten. That should pacify him,” said Eric. Sadie nodded.
“I just want to get everything back to the people of Pohnpei. They were so kind to us and willing to help us, and I want to make things right for them.”
“Some things will take time, Sadie,” said Eric. “The reefs will take time, the distrust of strangers, that may never go away.”
“I know,” she nodded. “Okay. I’m ready.”
“Let’s go, sunshine,” smiled Evie. “In today’s episode of “Find the Evil Man,” I’ll be playing your pilot. Tomorrow, I get to play the obnoxious loud friend. It’s the role of a lifetime!”
“I love you, Evie.” Sadie laughed, hugging the smaller woman.
“Love you, too, honey.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
Sadie had no idea where everyone was, but she knew they were somewhere inside the museum. Before she left the comfort of the hotel room, she hugged and kissed Ham, holding him tightly for a few extra moments.
“I love you,” she whispered. Ham squeezed her tighter, kissing her again.
“I love you right back.”
She drove herself to the museum, parking near the main entrance. She knew that Ham was in the trunk, and Nathan was in her backseat, covered up. Stepping out of the car, she pulled her large tote over her head, resting it on her shoulder. In front of her, she saw Evie and Piper walking into the museum. Behind them an unidentified man with wide shoulders. He wasn’t part of their group, but as long as he wasn’t a child, Sadie was okay.
At the information desk was a smiling Hiro, wearing wire-rimmed glasses, a pocket-protector, and his hair combed down over his forehead.
“Welcome to the Dinosaur Museum,” he smiled. “Can I help you?”
“Oh, no, thank you,” she said. “I’ll just browse.”
“Of course,” he nodded. “Here’s a map if you need to find your way.” She nodded, opening the map to find a note taped inside.
“Don’t forget that I love you.”
She could only smile, nodding her thanks. There were a few adults walking through the exhibits, but most of the people she saw were with VG. Piper and Evie were laughing loudly, pointing to a display of Cro-Magnon men in loin clothes. Sadie shook her head, staring at the exhibit, then stopped and looked again.
Nope, she wasn’t hallucinating. That was Rory and Magnus. Hairy chested, full beards, longer hair. They were both wide, muscled, and very much alive. Sadie nearly burst into laughter, then just winked at them.
Hoping to have at least a little fun, she stepped back, reaching for the bottom of the loin cloth on Rory.
“Ma’am, no touching the exhibits,” said Hiro, shaking a finger at her like the headmaster at a school.
“Oh, right. Sorry. I was just curious.” She winked at Rory and continued into the next room. She knew the others were close, watching from nearby, but this room was empty except for one older man thoughtfully reading the descriptors.
