Matt jumps up, and with a smile, I motion for him to calm down so she doesn’t hear him.
I blink three times, as if not understanding her words. But she accepted. She said yes. I don’t know why I’m so nervous; it’s not like this was the first time I had asked her to go out with me. But something about it being Heat Feast is making me so anxious. Right at this moment, I want to scream and shout and celebrate with excitement.
In the background, I hear her sister calling out to her. Something about the show they’re watching getting ready to announce the results.
“Hey, I’ve got to run, but I can’t wait for next Friday. I’ll text you later, Zander.”
I’ve got a smile on my face, stretching from ear to ear. “Sounds good. I can’t wait either. I’ll talk to you soon.”
“Soon,” she repeats with a giggle, and then we hang up.
“Wooo wooo! Yeah! That’s how you do it!” Matt shouts once he sees me putting the phone down. Some of the other guys in the locker room look our way, laughing and shaking their heads. “That’s how you get shit done!”
I stand up. The smile on my face can’t be wiped off. I grab my bag and Matt does the same. Then, shaking my head, I say, “You’re crazy, dude. You know that?”
He places an arm around my shoulder and as we walk out of the locker room he replies, “Yeah, but you love me for it.”
