“Go sing your song, little bird. The world wants to hear it.”

Grinning, I blow him a kiss and walk outside.

It’s windy today, so loud it whistles as it blows through the trees, and I stumble just a bit as I make my way to the car. I smile as the strong breeze whips across my face, remembering when Lee told me she thinks of her mom whenever it blows.

It’s always had adifferentmeaning for me.

But that was another lifetime.

Closing my eyes, I soak in the moment, imagining that the breeze is collecting the love from everyone I know, and wrapping itself around me, carrying me through my trip. Reminding me of all the things I have to live for.

I look back at my house, warmth bleeding from my pores. And I drive away from Sugarlake, knowing what awaits me when I come back.

My home. My heart. Mylife.

And through it all, I’ll remember the wind.
