“She didn’t report him because he convinced her she shouldn’t because it would ruin both of their careers. They parted ways with the agreement that they would never see each other again, and no one would know what happened.”
Zag pointed his finger in the air. “And now the douchebag is back.”
I nodded. “He got a job at Birdie’s hospital. She said he didn’t know she worked there, but I find it hard to believe. All the fucking hospitals, and he picks hers?” I shook my head. “Don’t believe it for a second.”
“So we find the guy and persuade him to find another hospital, right?” Zig suggested.
I shook my head. “She doesn’t want us to do anything.”
Hero sat back and flattened his lips. “What?”
I threw my hands in the air. “She thinks she can just talk to the head of the board or some bullshit, and they’ll fire him.”
“You don’t think that’ll piss this guy off when he figures out that Birdie got him fired?” Rigid asked. “The dude threw her down a flight of stairs before, what’s to make her think he won’t do it again?”
“I don’t know, man. I got pretty fucking pissed when she told me, and she made me swear I would let her handle it.” I cleared my throat and shrugged. “I didn’t mention anything about the club taking care of it, though.”
“Has he tried anything since he showed up?” Dad asked.
I shook my head. “Not that she told me. She said he might be dating one of the nurses already.”
“Guy works fast, huh?” Hero grunted.
“What’s his full name?” Luna asked. “I can see if Bear can run his name and see what he comes up with.”
“Aaron Gibbs.”
“I’ll get with Bear,” she replied.
“Any reason why you’re not running to your police officer?” Gravel asked.
“Because if anything happens to this guy after Ransom runs his name, it could come back to him and us. Bear can get info without anyone knowing he’s the one looking,” she explained.
“See what you can find. Until then, we need to keep an eye on this guy. Even if he’s turned into a saint and hasn’t laid a hand on in woman in ten years, he still needs to pay for what he did to Birdie. Lay low, and don’t make any moves. Maybe Birdie is right, and she can handle this, but we need to be ready if things change.”
Dad raised his hand. “I’ll keep an eye on the scumbag.”
“You think we need to keep eyes on Birdie?” Hero asked me.
“I don’t think it will hurt, but she can’t know about it. If she does, she’ll figure out we’re up to something.” Birdie was not stupid. She would easily put two and two together.
“Then you’re out of the running to watch her.” King nodded to Slider. “You’re doing it. I doubt she would recognize you.”
Slider grunted and crossed his arms over his chest. “Bullshit, but fine. Twenty-four-seven, or just when she’s working?”
King glanced at me. “Are you up to protecting her when she’s not working?”
“My vision is getting better every day. I got Birdie when she’s not working.” It would give me the excuse I needed to always be with her.
“Luna gets info on the guy, Easy and Slider keep an eye on Birdie, and Gambler watches the douche doctor.” King glanced at Hero. “You good with that?”
Hero waved his hand. “You know I am. Gonna have to wait until you permanently retire before I have the final say.”
King shrugged and grabbed the gavel. He handed it to Hero and motioned to the table. “You’re right, but I’ll at least let you pound the gavel.”
Hero rolled his eyes but slammed the gavel on the table.
The club was going to take care of Aaron, but it would take some time. I hoped Birdie was right and the guy would leave on his own, but from what I had seen in my life, that wasn’t going to happen.
