“Why are you having dinner with Birdie?” Greta asked.
“Because I want to.”
“Are you going to Cole Trickle her?”
“What?” Bear asked. “What in the hell is Cole Trickle.”
“It’s not a what, it’s a who,” Greta explained.
“Fine,” Bear grunted. “Who in the hell is Cole Trickle?”
“Days of Thunder,” I called, “and no, I am not Cole Trickling her.” Greta would be the one to connect this while to Days of Thunder.
“You guys are shit at explaining this,” Bear grunted.
“It’s a Tom Cruise movie. The guy is a race car driver who gets into a bad accident, and he falls in love with his doctor.” Greta sighed heavily. “Easy is Tom Cruise, and Birdie is Nicole Kidman.”
“Never saw it,” Bear replied.
“Then you need to keep your nose out of what I’m talking about,” Greta sassed. “And we also need to plan a night for you to watch Days of Thunder because it is a classic.”
“What time is it?” I asked.
“Six-forty-five,” Bear answered.
“Time for me to settle in and watch you Cole Trickle your way into Birdie’s life,” Greta laughed.
“Would you stop saying that,” I growled.
“Then what would you call having dinner with Birdie?” she demanded.
“Dinner,” Bear grunted.
“I’d call it having dinner with someone who doesn’t drive me crazy and actually listens to me.”
I heard footsteps and a hand on my arm. “Don’t hurt, Birdie, Easy. She’s nice and doesn’t play the games like you do.”
“I don’t play games,” I bit out.
“Greta,” Bear called. “Bring it down a notch, babe.”
“You can’t see me, but my finger is in your face, and I’m shaking it at you,” Greta described.
A smile curved my lips. “Thank you for the play-by-play.”
“We’re going,” Bear announced. “I’m tired from work, and I wouldn’t mind spending the night alone with my woman.”
“Fine,” Greta sighed. “But you better know I will know everything, Easy.”
“How?” I laughed.
“Because Birdie was mine before you took her,” she grumbled. “She’ll tell me everything.”
“Sure,” I drawled. “We’ll see about that.”
“You guys are exhausting. I’m going home, Greta. You coming with, or did you want to be a pain in the ass little sister?”
Greta squawked. “I am going with you, and we are watching Days of Thunder and after that Top Gun. Please tell me you have at least seen that.”
