He places his hand on my head, and I give a small cry before I’m shoved under the water. I try fighting, but it’s useless. I’m weak, and that was his plan.

I can feel my lungs beginning to burn as I try to hold my breath, and even at this moment, I pray for a miracle.

Suddenly, his hand is gone, and I emerge from the water, gasping for air. The familiar sound of gunshots rings out. I’m lifted out of the pool, and fear wraps around me because I have no idea who this man is.

He’s definitely not one of the cult members, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a threat. My father has many enemies, and I trust no one.

He races out of the building with me in his arms, with another man. Enemy or not, I am so grateful at this moment to be saved from a death I didn’t deserve.

We stop next to a large SUV, and he opens the door, placing me inside. He climbs in beside me and closes the door. I should say something, thank him for saving my life, but I don’t. I stare out the window, grateful and terrified of what happens now.

We don’t wait long before the others run toward the SUV and join us inside.

“Fuck,” one of them says, running his hand through his hair.

“We need to get back and talk to Boss,” the woman says.

Boss, great, this is definitely not somewhere I should be.

“How the fuck did you get involved with that cult?”

I don’t turn toward the man who just rescued me. I keep my focus out the window as I decide the truth will not be shared.

“We were approached by these people in Miami, and they promised we would be given work if we went with them,” I lie.

“There are others we left behind?” he asks angrily.

“No, they were killed already. I was the last left,” I continue to lie.

“Fuck,” he whispers.

I have no idea where they are taking me or who they are.

I just want to feel safe.

A feeling I’m unsure I’ll experience again.

CHAPTERONE

Reno

I’ve never really been the type of man to enjoy weddings, but Muffler and Beretta’s has been a damn good one. They transformed the rooftop of the club into something unrecognizable. It no longer looks like a chill place to relax with members of the club. Instead, it’s been transformed into something regal, almost gothic looking.

I never expected Beretta to be the type of woman who wanted to be in a black gown, but she surprised the whole club with it. Her hair is tied back in a tight bun, and she has on devilishly red lipstick. It really pops against her black, fluffy dress.

Muffler and Beretta hired a caterer, and they have a pop-up bar on the roof manned by someone who must work for the catering company. It all looks fucking amazing, and the best part of it all is the food. The scent of the tacos wafts through the air, and I swear to God I might end up destroying the whole damn pan. I am a motherfucker who loves tacos. Not just the kind in the pan, either. I love the ones between women’s legs too.

The entire club is having a good time. The wedding’s been over for a couple of hours, and we’re into the reception now. I’m standing in line at the bar, waiting behind Joker and Devi while they order their drinks. It’s great that they were able to come down here, especially since things have been so intense in Toronto.

They aren’t the only people who came from out of town to visit either. Gamble came from the Knights of Retribution MC in Delaware, while Zane and Octavia came from the Reapers Rejects MC out in Montana. A few of the club’s allies showed up, and I think it shows how important the club is to them, especially if they’re willing to travel all that way.

Joker and Devi get their drinks, and I lean over the counter of the pop-up bar. “Tequila on the rocks,” I tell the man in the black dress shirt and matching slacks.

“Sure thing,” he tells me as he grabs a glass, puts three cubes of ice in the glass, and proceeds to pour tequila over it. He hands me my drink, and I glance over, spotting Valencia in a stunning red gown. She’s near the edge of the roof, looking out onto the city skyline.

“Actually, can you make that two?” I ask him, and he nods, proceeding to make me another.

Within a few moments, I have both drinks, and I’m walking across the rooftop. Everyone is having a great time. Cowboy is dancing on the dance floor with Destiny, and Boss is standing on the sidelines, smiling as she watches the two of them. Omen and Gemini are on the dance floor as well, but they have their hands wrapped around each other, only focusing on the two of them from the looks of it. Maddox and Nikki are sitting at a table with some of the club’s children, chowing down. I’m a little bit hungry, but I’ll grab more food in a little while.
