“It might be a good place for you to haveyour bachelorette party.” Cole gives a tight smile.

“I guess maybe.” I glance at Jill. Ican’t really tell what Cole thinks of the idea.

“You never did know how to have a goodtime, Katie. But then I guess that’s why you got a master’s degree inantiques.”

It’s in Fine Arts with an emphasis inantiquities. She’s switched majors more times than I can count. Jill’s being ajerk. I’m fairly certain something has crawled up her ass and died. She justdoesn’t know when to stop. I need to remember that I’m not letting her or anyoneget to me. Cole gives me a side glance and I smile.

“Well, Kate and I had a good time when wewent.” Laura tilts her head, glaring at Jill.

“I did have a good time.” I give Laura agrateful smile. The lobby doors open and both Prescott men and the Everett’sare waiting for us.

Coop looks at his watch. “Damn, it’sabout time. I wondered if you were ever going to show.”

“Kate held us up,” my mother waves a handtoward me, exiting the elevator.

“You were worth the wait. You lookbeautiful.” Cooper kisses me on the cheek.

“Thank you, Cooper. Let me makeintroductions.” I grab my mother’s hand. “Mom, this is Alan Prescott. Cole’sgrandfather on his mother’s side. You met him briefly this morning. And CooperPrescott, his cousin. Cooper’s taking over Cole’s businesses here in Las Vegas.Cooper, Alan, this is my mother Luann Cook.”

“You have a wonderful daughter.” Alantakes my mother’s hand, kissing it. She gives him a warm smile. “I knew itwould take someone special to capture my grandson Coulter’s heart, and Kate isthat amazing girl.”

“Thank you, Alan.” I turn to Kit andRace. “This is Race Everett and Kit Everett, Cole’s business partners.Eventually, we will all call Seattle home.”

My mother turns to me. “Seattle?”

Dang it. I’m only trying to make smalltalk. I smile.

Race and Kit both shake my mother’s hand.

“And this is the rest of my family.” Imake introductions, purposely leaving Laura to last. “And this is my bestfriend, Laura. Kit, Race, I think you remember her.”

They mutter hellos, but Laura avoids eyecontact with Race.

“Now that we’re all acquainted, let’s goeat dinner,” Cole declares, all smiles.

Three Escalades and a stretch limo arewaiting out front. “Ladies…” Cole looks at my mother and aunt Kathy. “Would youlike to ride in the limousine?”

“Ooh really? That would be lovely,” mymother muses.

I turn around to see Alan escorting mygrandma, Alice. He smiles at me. “We old people have to stick together.”

I glance at Jill, who looks torn aboutwhere she should ride. “Jill,” I say, pointing to the open door of theEscalade. “Why don’t you ride with Annie, Laura and me. Let the old people ridein style.”

“What about Cole?”

“They have to take a short meeting withone of their attorneys. They’re going to follow us.”

“They?” She looks at me funny.

I point back to Cole, Coop, Kit, andRace, who are standing just inside the door talking with Luke.

“Oh. Um—okay,” Jill hesitates, but thencrawls into the SUV behind Annie and Laura.

I take one last look at Cole, and then Iget in myself. Keaton is at the wheel. Morgan shuts the door for me, and thengets in the passenger side. I look out the window at Cole and watch his headpop up as the car moves down the driveway. I put my hand up, but the windowsare tinted. He can’t see. I sit back with a sigh.

“So, where are we going?” Annie asks, looking out the window.

“I’m not sure. It’s called the TritonClub. They have live entertainment at night while you eat. Cole said it’s oneof his dad’s favorite places.”
