She wasn’t so sure of that but then reminded herself that his aunt did pick her to set up with Ivan.

Another thing she was trying not to forget.

Someone thought she was good enough for him and she had to get there herself.

When midnight rolled around, they had the games picked up and put away and were watching the ball drop. The TV had been playing in the background the whole time while they laughed and talked.

They counted down to one and he yanked her over to his lap where they were sitting on the couch and plastered his lips to hers.

Yep, this was a kiss she wanted and never experienced before.

A raw passion that was going to test her control.

Her hands went to his hair, her mouth almost more aggressive than his.

He laughed but continued to kiss her.

Ten minutes must have gone by easily. She felt what was growing in his jeans under her ass where she was sitting on his lap and knew he was as turned on as her.

He finally pulled his lips away and his forehead went to hers. “I don’t seem to have much control when I’m with you.”

“Join the crowd,” she said. “Why do you think I wanted to play games all night? If we were sitting here watching TV and talking I’d want to do more of what we are now.”

“And you aren’t sure you are ready for that just yet,” he said. “I understand.”

“Thank you for that,” she said, getting off his lap. “Wanting it and doing it are two different things. I hope you don’t think I’m a tease.”

He laughed. “Hardly that. We’ve known each other for a year. We’ve only started to talk more in the past month on a personal level. We’ve had two dates in a week.”

“I feel like I know you more than that though.”

“The same. There is a connection here that I haven’t felt before,” he said. “I mean that. I’m not just saying it to get in your jeans. Jeans that look mighty nice on you too.”

She stood up and did a little twirl for him and it reminded her that yeah, she was still in there locked away and he was bringing that person out again.

He was smiling when she stopped and looked at his face. “Thank you very much. I should probably get home now and not test fate any longer.”

“It might be wise,” he said. “Happy New Year. We didn’t say it to each other.”

“We were too busy kissing. That works for me though.”

“You work for me,” he said, pulling her closer and kissing her again.

It was another five minutes before she was out the door and in her car.

It was about fifteen minutes before she got home. She noticed the lights on in her mother’s place and decided to stop in and see if she was okay.

She unlocked the door and walked in. Her mother was on the couch sleeping, the TV on. “Mom,” she said. She didn’t want to scare her.

“Kendra,” her mother said, waking up. “I wasn’t sure if you’d come home. I guess I fell asleep listening to the TV.”

“I told you I’d be home.”

“What time is it?”

“Twelve thirty,” she said.

“You should have stayed with Ivan tonight,” her mother said with a big smile on her face.
