“I didn’t feel courageous, just scared and angry,” she whispered.

“That combination works as well,” Gunner said.

Paige cringed when she heard police sirens in the background. Her suspicions had been correct. Someone had probably heard the gunshots and called the cops.

“Don’t worry about the police. The MC has an arrangement with the sheriff and his people,” Gunner told her. “Besides, surveillance captured everything, and it will show Richard pointing that gun at you.”

“But what about what comes after? The cameras probably caught you shooting him,” Paige said. “Gunner, I don’t want you to go to jail because of me.”

“That won’t happen.” Gunner kissed the top of her head. “For one, I’ll have our computer specialist edit the video before handing it over to the police. Plus, we can pass this off as me shooting your psycho ex in self-defense of the woman I love.”

The police sirens grew closer, but right now, that didn’t matter. “You love me?” Paige asked.

“I do, with everything I am,” Gunnerconfirmed.

“I love you too, Gunner.”

At that moment, Paige knew that everything would turn out just fine.

Chapter Ten

Gunner pushed open the door to the store, frowning when he didn’t immediately catch sight of Paige. For a second, he wondered if Paige was in trouble.

Then he remembered a month had passed since he put a bullet in Richard’s head. According to Whizz, Richard’s father had reported his son missing only a few days ago.

It didn’t matter if Charles Montgomery used all of his vast wealth and resources. Gunner and his MC brothers had dug a grave so deep no one would ever find it.

“Paige?” he called out.

Gunner walked around the store. Still no sign of his woman. Gunner checked the small break room, then heard a flush from the employee bathroom. He knocked on the door and heard a yelp from inside.

“Paige, it’s me,” Gunner said.

“Gunner, I’ll be right out,” Paige answered. She sounded a little high-pitched and nervous.

“Something wrong?” he asked, starting to get a little concerned.

“I don’t know,” she admitted, and that response worried him to pieces.

After five minutes, Paige unlocked the door. She looked pale, worried.

Gunner brushed the hair from her face. “Are you feeling ill?” Gunner asked. “I’ll give Agatha a call and take you to the nearest hospital.”

“It’s not—” Paige said, rubbing her arm. Finally, she looked him in the eyes. “Gunner, check the sink.”

Gunner did as she asked, finding a pregnancy test there. He blinked a few times to check what he was seeing. Positive. He returned to her. “You’re pregnant?”

“I know we haven’t discussed kids in detail,” Paige whispered. “And after my last miscarriage…”

Gunner finally understood the root of Paige’s fear. Her doctor told her she couldn’t carry to full term again. His anger spiked, but Richard was dead in the ground, rotting with the worms.

“Come here, baby,” he said, bringing her close.

Paige shivered in his arms and started to relax when Gunner began kissing the side of her neck. “Paige, we’ll see this through together. I’ll find you the best doctors. He or she will give us a second opinion,” he told her.

Paige twisted in his arms, and Gunner loosened his grip so she could turn to face him. “You’re not displeased about the news?” she asked uncertainly.

“I’m elated.” He cupped her cheek and leaned in close to kiss her.
