The unique smell that was all her, filled him, and a sense of calm followed.
“I’ll leave you two to talk. Let me know if y’all need somthin’.” Branson got up and wandered to the main house, giving one last wave before going inside. Leaving them with just the trees around them.
“Tell me what’s going on,” she murmured her head tilted back to look at him.
“Please,” she continued when he hesitated.
“You remember that file that Rick handed me, the one that Dominic had.” She nodded to him. “Well, it has some information about your family.”
“Okay,” she said, her tone not giving him anything to go off of.
“I don’t want to talk about this if it’s going to bring up bad memories.”
“Just tell me, Mark.” She huffed and he chuckled. She really was something else when she was all fired up.
“Okay. Well let’s start with the fact that both your mother and father are gone.”
“You mean dead,” she stated bluntly.
“Yes, little bird,” he said carefully, watching her face. But there was nothing there. She simply nodded and leaned back into him. He just hoped that this wasn’t something that would hit her later.
“You don’t seem upset at that.”
“They were never truly my family, Mark.” A bolt went through his chest and he hugged her closer, pressing another kiss to her head.
I’ve got you little bird.
“My brothers?” she questioned.
“It seems that your brothers are part of an MC.”
“What’s an MC?” she scrunched up her nose, looking cute.
“It’s a motorcycle club. The Savage Conquerors.”
“Do you think we need to worry about them?”
“No, little bird. I don’t.” He half lied. He didn’t want her to worry. “I don’t think there is anything to worry about with the cartel either. It’s been over a year since I killed him. We would have heard something by now.”
“Why did you drag this all out tonight?”
He looked out past the porch as hesitation filled him.
The truth was that the car had spooked him, but just like he didn’t want her worrying, he didn’t want her looking over her shoulder either.
“Nothing, just couldn’t sleep. Thought I would sit out here.”
“Mmm … You coming back to bed?”
He leaned back enough that he could look down at her, his brow furrowed.
Seriously who was this woman that he was lucky enough to have?
“You are amazing you know that?”
“If I am it’s only because of you Mark.” She leaned forward slightly, kissing him, pausing till he wrapped his hand around her neck, and turned her farther into him.
She pulled back before he could deepen it and she chuckled at him.
