As if he hadn’t killed and tortured people for a living.

God he was so fucking lucky.

“I mean what if he had taken you in! What would have happened! I just…” He swooped in and kissed her, silencing her rant that was more of a yell.

The crowd around them were staring at them, but he didn’t care. He backed her into the car door, her hands going around his waist as she moaned into his mouth.

“No one is taking your Mark away from you, little bird. Trust me,” he whispered against her lips.

“I do, Mark,” she whispered back, her eyes on his, searing through him.

That crack in his chest burning.

He was so fucking lucky.

After a stop at the grocery store, after they were loaded down with several cartons of ice cream, they headed home. He didn’t know how she was going to eat it all, but he wasn’t about to stop her from buying it.

He helped her in the truck and turned putting the bags in the back seat when a car parked a few blocks down caught his attention.

It wasn’t that it was just parked.

There were other cars parked along the road, their drivers having gone into the local bars or restaurants.

It was that it didn’t fit in.

All the other cars parked along the road were trucks or older versions of something. This was a brand-new dodge charger. All blacked out, clear to the windows, and it sent a chill down his spine. Something from before, came forward inside him.

An intuition.

He couldn’t see past the blacked-out windows, but based on the feeling in his gut, whoever was sitting in that front seat was staring straight at him.

Danger.

It was a feeling he was more than used to.

He walked around the front of the truck, keeping his eyes off the vehicle, not giving away that they were made, and climbed in, contemplating what to do.

It looked like he had some people to talk to.

The first of which in the past would have been Dominic.

But now he wasn’t sure what to do.

The car revved and he watched out the rear view mirror as they turned and drove off. Once upon a time he would have welcomed the chase and would have just taken off after them.

But he had precious cargo now.

He should probably read those files that Dominic had for him.

Because based on that car sitting there, something else was going on.
