Dominic’s face wasn’t closed down any longer, it was full of thunder. Showing that he clearly was not happy that Mark had someone in his corner, that someone was not bending to his will, and that the person was Winter.

When Dominic didn’t get what he wanted, all hell broke loose.

He tightened his arms around his little bird, eyeing Dominic warily, thinking quickly to try to diffuse the situation that he was sensing was just getting started.

Dominic didn’t miss any of it. His eyes narrowed as he stood from his desk, his fingers going to the buttons on his suite jacket, and Marks back went straight as Dominic’s face grew dark.

He had dealt with a lot over his years of service to the Mancini Family.

He had served them without question.

He had gone to prison for them.

In all that time he had never let his anger, or his hatred of the situation get the better of him.

But right then, for the first time in his life, his vision turned red.

He wasn’t an angry person.

It was true that he had a violent side to him, anyone working with the Familia did, but it wasn’t natural for him.

In fact, it haunted him.

But right then, he felt a rage that he had never known.

Rick and Danny both took a step closer to them, as if sensing that he was about to lose it. He pulled Winter from in front of him, gently grasping her arm and pulling her behind him, standing up taller, dropping his mask and letting his anger show in his face.

And for the first time in his life, he didn’t guard his words to a member of the Mancini Family.

“I don’t care who the fuck you are, or what the fuck you think you have. But the next time you look at her like that, the next time you talk about her like that, you and I will have a serious motherfucking problem.”

Dominic paused, his eyes widening just a fraction.

He didn’t care that Dominic wouldn’t back down.

Right then he wouldn’t either.

He had something now that mattered more than his loyalty to the Mafia now and she was standing behind him. Her hand on his waist, the slight tremble in her body betraying that although she wasn’t showing it, she was scared.

I’ve got you, little bird.

“What the fuck did you say to me?” Dominic’s words slithered between them. The temperature in the room dropped as Rick and Danny visibly tensed.

“It’s because I’m pregnant!” Alice blurted out, and they all turned to gape at her.

“I’m pregnant. He’s worried! Dominic, please stop this!” she pleaded but Dominic didn’t even look at her.

The floor dropped out from under him, understanding exactly what Alice meant.

He had brought Winter here thinking that he was taking her to his family. But when it all came down to the wire, he wasn’t really one of them.

Not enough to matter.

Really, he couldn’t blame him. If it came down to choosing them or Winter, he would choose her any day, time, or place.

It still cut deep that this was how Dominic chose to go about it.

It still hurt to know that he wasn’t family.
