“What … What is this … what is going on?” He cried out frantically.

He may have been sent by Dominic for a job, but at the sight of Rosita and Winter on the floor out of the corner of his eye, he knew that he was going to enjoy this.

“The Mancini family says hello,” Mark said before lifting his gun and shooting the motherfucker.

Ernesto fell to the floor, a pool of blood flooding around him, the sight of it filling him with satisfaction.

Not giving Ernesto another thought, he stepped over his body, twisting the silencer off, and holstering the gun while jogging over to Rosita who was now helping the girl off the floor.

He didn’t stop to talk.

They had seconds till another guard would enter the room.

But he had a plan.

Swiftly bending, he lifted Winter over his shoulder and jogged to a side door with Rosita right on his tail. Winter never made a sound, although being over his shoulder couldn’t have been all that comfortable.

I’m sorry little bird.

The cook was already waiting for him at the back kitchen door. He swung the door open, let them slip through, and then closed it just as quickly behind them.

From there it was a short trek to the car that he had stashed down the road. Different than the one that he had drove in with.

It was amazing what you could do with a little help, and the men at Ernesto’s disposal were far from loyal. It was what happened when you ruled with terror.

Speeding down the drive and out of town, they all remained quiet. He kept checking every mirror, hoping that they weren’t being followed.

Yet.

Because it would happen.

All that mattered was how much distance they could put between them before then.

Rosita was sitting in the back with Winter, who had yet to make any noise.

Not a peep.

“It’s okay, I promise. This man is going to get you out. He’s going to save you. I promise.” Rosita kept whispering to her.

But she didn’t say anything.

The only indication that she was scared, was the trembling of her delicate body and the wide eyes that were frantically glancing out the windows.

Poor little bird.

“Are you alright?” he asked Rosita after a few miles of being on the freeway. He was going fast, but not enough that if a cop came by that he would get pulled over.

He was relatively sure that they were safe now, but he still kept an eye on the mirrors to be safe.

“Yes I’m fine. We both are. Thank you, Marcus, my boy. I knew if anyone could get her out it would be you.” He scoffed at her words.

“Will you please not call me that?” He grunted, and she chuckled lightly as he made the turn for the gas station where he would switch cars again.

One of the benefits of being a member of the Familia is that he knew how to pull this kind of shit off.

He pulled up and put the car in park. Turning around to face the two women.

“Did you have time to explain everything?” The poor girl looked ready to faint, and he didn’t want to scare her even more, but he didn’t exactly have the time to sit here and calm her fears.
