“Quinn, come sit down.” He tries to put his arm on my shoulder, and I duck out of it.
“Do not touch me.”
“Quinn, please, come sit down,” Valeria quietly says.
I am confused. “You do realize that I’ve been sleeping with your husband, correct?”
She gives me a sympathetic smile. “Yes. Please come sit down.”
“Quinn, sit down and let us explain,” Jamison repeats.
I don’t know what to do. I’m so confused.
He’s married.
Tears trickle down my face again. “You lied to me.”
“I never lied to you.”
“You didn’t tell me you were married.”
“No, but you never asked me if I was, and I never told you I wasn’t. I didn’t lie to you.”
I snarl, “I think the first night we met when I asked you if you had a girlfriend, that would have been the appropriate time to tell me that you have a wife.”
He closes his eyes as if in pain. “I’m sorry. But if you let me explain, you’ll understand why I couldn’t.”
“So I would sleep with you,” I seethe as more tears run down my face.
“No. Sit down. Let me explain. Please.” He tries to grab my arm again.
“Stop trying to touch me,” I yell.
He holds his hands up. “Okay. Please sit down.”
“Quinn, I understand you’re upset, but please come sit down so we can explain,” Valeria calmly says.
“Why are you not upset? You should be upset,” I tell her.
She steps forward and grabs my hand. “Come on. Come sit with me.” For some reason, unbeknownst to me, I allow her to lead me to the sofa.
What is going on here? Why is she being kind to me? I’ve been sleeping with her husband.
I sit, and she sits next to me. She continues to hold my hand. Her body is turned into mine, and her one leg is bent, with her knee on the back of the couch.
“What we are about to tell you cannot go further than this room,” she says.
I say nothing.
“Jamison and I are married, but we did not marry for love.”
“I don’t understand.”
“I’m sure. My girlfriend Cindy didn’t understand when I told her, either.”
Her girlfriend? What? I’m so confused.
“Jamison and I have always been good friends. I am a lesbian. We’ve only kissed twice. Once at each of our weddings.”
