He shook his head, his eyes raking down my body and back up before he laughed bitterly and put his hand on his hips. “Well, fuck!”

“Look, I don’t want anything from you, Ethan. You don’t even have to be part of this child’s life if you don’t want to.”

His face turned into a mask of rage. “Are you kidding me? What kind of a man do you think I am, Riley Young? I don’t walk out on my responsibilities. You can damn well bet that from this moment on, I will be a part of that baby’s life. I want to know every detail about that child, and you do not have any right to tell me no.”

I stared at him, my eyes wide, my hands shaking.

He inhaled slowly and then released it. “You understand that, correct? I will be a part of this child’s life, whether you want me to or not. If that child is mine, I’m going to raise my child—not some other man.”

He turned and walked to the door, which was still open. He paused as he started to walk out. “Acknowledge that you heard me, Riley.”

I nodded slowly.

“Good. We will talk later. I have some thinking to do.” With that, he stepped out of my house and closed the door with a hard thud.

The moment the door closed, my knees gave out, and I slumped to the floor, every muscle in my body quivering. What the hell did he mean about him raising the child and not another man?
