“There is that,” she murmured, and I noticed her lips twitch.
The asshole was laughing at me.
“This isn’t fucking funny, Skylar,” I bit out. “You’ve been driving me fucking crazy for over a month.”
“How have I been-”
“No, scratch that,” I corrected, interrupting her. “How long have you been working for Opium? Because that’s how long you’ve been driving me fucking nuts.”
Her brows shot upward in surprise. “How do you figure? I haven’t done anything.”
“You exist, don’t you?” I shot back. “Well, there you go.”
“Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound right now?” she asked.
“Yes, I’m very aware,” I replied. “Why do you think you’re here? We need to settle this shit before I lose my mind completely.”
Skylar crossed her arms over her chest. “So, you’re saying that you want to date?”
“We passed dating after you let me slide my dick in your ass, Skylar,” I returned, still feeling irritated enough to be crass. “I’m pretty sure that we’re at the point where we’re already in a relationship.”
“Just like that?”
The woman was really trying my patience. “Just say yes already,” I demanded. “Quit fucking with me, or you’ll really see what an asshole I can be.”
“That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement to jump into a relationship with you, Mr. Rush.”
I reached out, grabbed her by her arm, then yanked her towards me. “I already told you to quit fucking with me, Sky.”
Her hands came up to rest on my chest. “Are you going to be a difficult boyfriend?”
“Did you honestly think otherwise?”
Her blue eyes finally regarded me seriously. “So, we’re really doing this?”
“I hate to break it to you, but we’vebeendoing this,” I answered.
“We’re going to have to talk to Waylon,” she said, and I finally felt like I could breathe after a month of struggling to get my shit together. “Human resources, too.”
I wrapped my arms around her waist. “Well, since you officially report to Waylon, I don’t see how anyone can object.”
She arched a brow. “What if they do?”
“Opium isn’t the only place in this city to work,” I told her honestly. “I’m a mechanic, Skylar. I can get a good job anywhere. Besides, the company doesn’t have a no-fraternizing policy.” I shrugged. “They might side-eye us, but that’s about it.”
“You don’t think that the guys will be a problem?” she asked, and I understood her meaning.
“If they say anything to you, I’ll let you handle it on the clock,” I told her. “But if any one of those fuckers says anything to you, I’ll be handling itoff the clock.”
Skylar choked out a laugh. “I just meant the teasing,” she clarified. “I seriously doubt that any of them are going to talk shit. I can’t see any of them being mean like that.”
I tightened my hold around her waist. “You’re probably right, but still. If any of them says anything that makes you uncomfortable, I want to know.”
“I can hold my own, Rush,” she said primly.
“Oh, I know you can,” I replied. “But you got yourself a caveman, baby, so deal with it.”
“Well, in that case, it looks like the only place that we won’t be fighting will be in the bedroom,” she snorted, and I couldn’t believe that I wasted so much time maintaining a professional relationship with her only.
