Asher’s head moved slightly back and forth in disbelief.
Ava grinned at Asher’s reaction. “Basically, he came here to tell me that since she was out of the picture we could still get married.”
“Really?” Obviously, Asher knew what her answer had been, but he wanted to hear it from her. “And what did you say to that?”
“After trying to explain to him why that was never going to happen, and him not getting the message, I threatened to call the police if he didn’t leave. Which he didn’t but then I—”
Asher sat up straighter as a rush of adrenaline shot through him. “You should have called me.”
“Don’t worry.” Ava smiled and placed her hand on his chest. “He left when I threatened to call Viv.”
Maybe the guy was smarter than I gave him credit for.
Ava sighed. “I don’t want to waste another second talking about him. How are you? I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve seen—”
“I love you.” Asher hadn’t meant to blurt his feeling out like that, but he just couldn’t wait a second longer to tell Ava how he felt about her.
“What?”
“I love you,” he repeated.
“Are you sure?” Ava’s brow creased and her eyes widened. “Are you sure you love me?”
That wasn’t exactly the reaction he’d expected when he declared his feelings for Ava, but it was, hands down, the most adorable response to someone professing their love to someone else that he’d ever seen.
