“When she showed up, I wanted her to loosen up, relax and forget about the aforementioned ball-less wonder. I knew that the quickest way to make that happen would be to ply her with alcohol.
“We walked up to the bar, I ordered two shots of Fireball and a vodka water, her drink of choice. After she took the shots, we were headed back to the table to join our sister Audrey who was holding down the fort when green polo shirt throws his arm around my neck and asks what my sign is. I replied, no trespassing and proceeded to remove his arm forcefully. We got back to the table and Ava started drinking her drink.
“At first she just seemed a little loose, but after a few minutes my sisters and I could tell that there was something wrong. She was slurring her words and hallucinating, saying that she saw tall, dark, and dangerous. So, we took her home.”
“And who is tall, dark, and dangerous?”
“A man from her past. It’s a long story.”
Asher nodded as he finished writing his notes.
“He must have plopped the roofie in the drink when he put his arm around me,” Vivien offered.
Asher pulled his card out of his pocket. “Would you and your sister be able to come into the station today so we can get your statements. Also, we may want your sister to go to the lab and take a test to see if there is any benzodiazepine in her system.”
“Sure thing, Joe Friday.” Vivien winked as she took his card.
He closed his notebook and put it back in his shirt pocket. “Thank you for your time and the information, Ms. Wells.”
When he turned to leave he couldn’t help but wonder what the story was behind tall, dark and dangerous. He didn’t follow up on it because it didn’t appear to have any relevance to the case. But for some reason he was curious. Very curious.
