It’s like a plea. She must have been going out of her mind.
“I met someone. It was sudden, and I didn’t have time to tie up affairs. We went abroad and only just got back.”
She stares at me for a few seconds, eye blinking, and brows furrowed. “You met someone or someones?”
“All of us, cupcake. It’s a group affair. We needed to go out of town on business. We’re building a club in China. There was no way we were leaving Dessa behind,” Draven says.
If he didn’t sound like an asshole before, he does now. Megan looks practically feral.
“You left with three strangers to go to China. Just like that?”
I sit on the couch and arrange the skirt of my dress, but not before giving Julius a peek. I suck in a breath and turn toward Megan, who sits next to me.
“I don’t know how to explain it. It’s almost like I had no choice. It was a tornado, and I was stuck in the middle of it.”
“With all three of them? Odessa, I didn’t think you were into polyamory.”
“I didn’t either, but once I found them, they weren’t letting me go.”
Draven laughs, taking the drinks from the server and placing them in front of us. I down the rest of mine and then pick up a new one. God, I wish I could get drunk.
She pulls me close, whispering in my ear. “Are you safe? Do you need me to call Bill from work? We could get you out of here.”
I kiss her cheek, pulling back so I can see her entire face. “I’m fine Megan, really. It’s not like that, I promise. If it were, you know you’d be the first to know about it.”
She sighs, leaning back on the couch and takes a huge gulp of her drink. “Okay, as long as you’re safe and not in danger. It’s so fucking good to see you. I missed you.”
“I missed you too. We got to run into each other and I am happy about it. I didn’t know how you would feel about talking to me again.”
“Is that why you haven’t called? I would never do that to you. You’re my friend.”
“Let’s do shots!” Theron says, bringing over a bottle of Jack Daniels. I didn’t even see him get up.
“If you’re paying,” Megan says, accepting the shot glass.
“We own the place, cupcake. We don’t pay,” Draven says.
I would really like to punch him in the face sometimes, but it’s too pretty. The thought leaves me and I check myself. I shouldn’t have feelings for them. It’s only sex. The mating and then I’m gone.
Theron raises his shot glass when we all have a drink in hand. “To a new beginning.”
Megan clinks glasses with me and we down the liquid. Her face is flushed and I can tell she’s drunk. She sways as she sits, tapping her fingers to the beat of the music.
“Let’s dance,” I say, grabbing her hand and pulling her up.
We make our way to the dance floor and move in between the crowd. The scents assault my nose and I close my eyes for a moment, regaining my control. It would be so easy to grab the nearest human and tear their throat out.
Opening my eyes, I see the guys staring at me. Theron’s leaning over the railing like he’d jump down at any minute to save me. The thought of him having my back makes me smile.
“Dance! Come on, Odessa,” Megan says, swaying to the music. I put all the thoughts behind me and move with the music. My hips sway to the beat and I raise my hands, throwing my head back.
Hands grip my hips, and I freeze for a moment. The scent of human is overwhelming. A mix of sweat and desire. His pheromones are delicious on my tongue. I spin around, faster than any human should be able to, and wrap my hands around his neck.
He smiles and leans in closer to whisper into my ear. My fangs elongate and I squeeze his neck tighter.
“You’re sexy as fuck,” he purrs, running his hands over my back, pulling himself closer to me. My breasts press up against his hard chest. I want to look at his face, but his pulse is beating so fast. He’s aroused. It would take nothing to sink my fangs into him. It would look like a lover’s embrace.
A growl comes from both sides of me, and I roll my eyes, releasing the human. “You should probably leave before they kick you out.”
