Epilogue

A Year Later - Julian

“Introducing,Mr. and Mrs. Julian Howard Kelly!”

Olivia and I walk into our backyard reception, Jordan standing in as my best man and Olivia’s best friend Ella as her maid of honor. Our folks were seated at the table in the front, Olivia’s dad seated at a separate table with his newest girlfriend. We move onto the dance floor and share our first dance, Olivia dressed in an off-white dress and me in my mess dress uniform.

“I love you,” I murmur to her.

“I love you, too.”

“Are you happy?”

She nods. “Very. You?”

“Extremely.”

She rests her head on my shoulder as we move slowly against the rhythm of the music while other couples soon come and join us on the dancefloor.

“I have a secret,” Olivia hums against my chest.

“What’s that?”

She looks up at me with her chin pressed into my chest, her blue eyes clear and wistful. “I’m pregnant.”

I stop us from moving as I gaze at her speechless. “Are you sure?”

“Yup. Ella and I went out and got six different tests. All were positive. So I went to the doctor yesterday and I’m already ten weeks along.”

“Kentucky. The weekend at Grandpa’s ranch,” I remember.

She nods her head. “Are you happy now?” she asks with a touch of worry in her voice.

I kiss her forehead and begin moving us to the song again. “I’m even more ecstatic! We’re having a baby.”

“We’re having a baby,” she repeats happily.

Life comes in waves, good ones, and bad ones. Sometimes calm, sometimes rough. It’s all about managing your sea and being with the ones that matter most. It’s never easy to understand why someone you love leaves you, whether their death was expected or not. But just know that you are not alone. It’s hard going on without that special someone but the world never stops spinning and the days and weeks go by quickly. It’s important to take care of one another, but it’s always important to take care of ones self and to never be ashamed to ask for help when you need it.
